I was very pleased to attend the
Auburn Women’s Institute meeting
on Thursday. The branch celebrated
85 years with guests, entertainment
and loads of cake.
Tulips graced the tables and three
long-time members were in atten-
dance to cut the cake. They were
Bernice Anderson, Ruth Jardin, and
Mildred Lawlor.
President Erma Cartwright of
Auburn did a great job chairing thespecial meeting and everyone wenthome with a plant for their gardenand a smile on their face.At the Ontario Federation ofBroomball Banquet in Orangevilleheld recently, StephanieArchambault received the CentralWest Ontario, Female JuvenilePlayer of the Year award. She plays
for both the Blyth Rebels and
Seaforth Assassins.
Stephanie Archambault and
grandmother Joan Dougherty, will
be celebrating their birthdays on
May 16. Stephanie will be 18 and
Joan will be celebrating her 75th
birthday.
I attended the Auburn
Horticultural Society plant auction
this past week and what a great
turnout they had. Every chair was
full and the hall was lined to over-
flowing with plants to be auctionedoff. Everyone did an exceptional job. Now we get to sit back and watchthe group make the village beautifulfor another year. I especially enjoyedwatching the young people help out. This is what makes our small com-munities the best place to live. And on the topic of plant auctions, the Dungannon Women’s Institute is
inviting everyone to their plant auc-
tion this Saturday, May 26, at my
house, 37229 Dungannon Rd., for a10 a.m. start and bring your lawnchairs. We are just east of Brindley’sAuction, and I will have the cof-feepot on.We are still looking for donationsof plants, (especially the new andunusual) and any garden-relateditems. Please drop them off ahead(with identification information
attached please) or give me a call to
arrange for pick-up.

from bingo to flea markets. (Vicky Bremner photo)

Collect were repeated in unison and
O Canada was sung, followed by the
WI grace. A special cake, made and
decorated by Carol McDowell, was
cut by Mildred Lawlor, Bernice
Anderson and Ruth Jardin. Cake
and ice cream, fruit, biscuits, cheese
and beverages were there for every-
one’s enjoyment.

There was lots of activity then.

Debbie Bauer, president of the
Huron West District, and she wel-

Looking back was the beginning
and looking forward is the work

– greens, 1 cup tomato pieces, 1 cup
