Pupils from Grades 6, 7 and8 at Hullett Central Public Schoolvery competently presented the operetta, the Trial of the Big, Bad Wolf. Wolf (Derek deBoer) was in court to answer the accusation of the three pigs that he had blown down two of their homes. The play was set in the 1950s and the three pigs, played by Heather Gibson, Alanna Roy and Vanessa Wilts wore poodle skirts. For the all-girl jury, they sang Built My House to gain their support. Called to witness about Wolf’s bad behaviour were Little Red Riding Hood (Ali Snell), the boy (Brent Drost) who cried wolf and Peter (Beth Kipp), from the story, Peter and the Wolf. Prosecutor Kelsey Falconer offered a strong case for the pigs in the manner of Rodney Dangerfield, claiming pigs ‘get no respect’. Wolf’s defense claimed he was just out jogging the night of the incident and that really he had been at Grandma’s home making a house call to the lonely and shut-in. Defense arguments were offered by Jasmine deBoer and Justine Reid. Everyone in the courtroom seemed to be talking out of turn and the bailiff, Emily Allen, was continually attempting to regain order. Her job was most necessary, for the judge, played by Aaron Popp, admittedly was unwell that day and would rather have been home in bed. Grandma, aka Courtney Middegaal, came to court to state that Wolf was not so bad for he had offered to take her dancing and shehad brought along her LawrenceWelk and Guy Lombardo records. The judge’s day ended swiftly whenWolf decided he would rather go tojail than go dancing. The cast delivered their lines with confidence and their timing for the comedic lines was right on. Theboys supporting Wolf wore white t-shirts and leather jackets and hadslicked back hair. There were lots of ‘sha-na-na’s’,‘yeah, yeah, yeah’s’and ‘be bops’in the songs. Two titles of songs sung that evening were It’s a Trial and The Weasel Sidestep.Barb Bosman was theaccompanist for the evening and SueBarnett the director. It was a treat tobe attending court that day. Most of the school’s pupils were involved in a most interesting spring Under the sea Hullett Central Public School’s kindergarten students got all dressed up for this year’s spring concert last week. Taking the stage in pairs, the students acted as undersea creatures with each telling their own story. Everyone was there, including lobsters, seahorses and even turtles. From left: Timothy Steinson, William Miller, Jazlen Wright. (Shawn Loughlin photo) Doug Bundy was the after-dinner speaker at the Betty Cardno Centre in Clinton on Wednesday, May 11. He spoke to all the diners gathered that afternoon, including the Cheerio Club ladies from Londesborough, about his visit to the Dominican Republic. His informative session included slides of his time there. Dorothy Johnston was in charge of the Cheerio Club business and opened their time together with the serenity prayer. Roll call followed and some brief reports. Everyone signed a card for Josephine MacGregor who is convalescing following knee surgery. Kay Hesselwood won the gift of the month, given by Ruth Shiell. The group will meet again on June 20.
