BLYTH UNITED CHURCH
Greeting at Blyth United Church
on May 6 were Terry Richmond and
Brenda Brooks. Ushering were
Karen Glousher, Emily Phillips,
Terry Richmond and Brenda
Brooks. Guest organist was Lynda
McGregor.
Cheryl Cronin led a hymn-sing
before the service. Emily Phillips
spoke about a new youth minister
who is being hired in the Huron-
Perth Presbytery.
Quinton Hakkers, Candise Abell-
Rinn, Bryce and Brett Glousher
passed lunch bags through the
congregation to collect pocket
change to help offset the church’s
Presbytery fee for each member of
the congregation.
Guest speaker, Ethel Miner-Clare
welcomed everyone to church.
The Call to Worship was repeated
responsively.
The first hymn was Morning has
Broken. This was followed by the
Opening Prayer, Prayer of
Confession repeated in unison and
the words of Assurance.
The choir sang an anthem Because
He Lives.
The children’s hymn was I was
There to Hear Your Borning Cry.
The children came to the front of the
church during the second verse. Rev.
Miner-Clare asked them if they
knew what the baptism font was for.
She explained that there were three
babies to be baptized that day and
she would ask them after the babies
were baptized if they would promise
to welcome the babies to Sunday
school when they were old enough
to attend.
The children sat on the steps at the
front of the church during the
baptism. Barb Richmond introduced
the babies Alana Olivia Grace,
daughter of Heather and Tyler
Stewart; Christine Marie, daughter
of Andrea and Mark Hoba and
Kaeden Leigh James, son of Pam
and Todd MacDonald.
The remaining verses of the
previous hymn were sung and the
children went down to Sunday
school.
The scripture readings were from
Revelation 21: 1-6 and John 13: 31-
35.
Rev. Miner-Clare’s message to the
adults was We Have Promised. She
spoke about the promises that the
congregation had made to the babies
and parents, to help support them
and to be there for them in the good
times and bad times. “We need to
love one another and be able to
listen and forgive others,” she
said.
She related a story of a little girl
who said she didn’t remember her
baptism and her mother told her to
ask Mrs. Brown in the choir because
she was there. Mrs. Brown told the
little girl all about her baptism and
this is what Christians can do if they
are asked by someone about their
baptism.
Huron OPP continue to investigate
a fatal motor vehicle collision that
occurred on Harriston Road (Hwy.
87) between the villages of Gorrie
and Wroxeter on April 14.
Investigation by OPP Technical
Collision Investigators has revealed
that 16-year-old Travis Sturgeon was
struck and killed by a vehicle on
Harriston Road sometime before
3:30 a.m. OPP are pleading with the
suspect to come forward.
Investigators are confident that the
suspect driver would have felt or at
the very least, heard a noise when the
victim was struck. “We hope that the
suspect will listen to his/her
conscience and come forward,” said
Const. Jeff Walraven.
Police continue to work with
community partners at local garages
and body shops to determine if the
suspect is in the process of trying to
fix the vehicle. There would likely
have been damage to the front
portion and hood area of the vehicle
and possibly the windshield.
Police urge any member of the
public to come forward with
information immediately in order to
continue with the investigation. They
can contact police at 1-888-310-1122
or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-
