(Photo submitted) The Breakfast for Learning program serves a nutritious snack during the first nutrition break of the day to those students who need it. The program provides muffins, fruit juice, cereal, veggies, yogurt, applesauce and other nutritious items. Approximately 40 Grey Central students take advantage of this program each day, which is about 20 per cent of the student population. Although the program is fully funded through grants from provincial and municipal organizations, it is struggling to have enough volunteers to provide this service. The school is looking for community volunteers to assist with food preparation and shopping for supplies for the program. The Grade 3s are studying pioneers and they are looking for some community volunteers to help with their upcoming pioneer days. If anyone has any pioneer tools, kitchen items, games or other pioneer items of interest to share with the children, please contact the school. The kindergartens and Grade 1s are going to be studying different types of jobs/careers. Anyone wishing to come and talk to these young students about what their work is would be very much appreciated. The Grey Central fundraising committee has started planning for their last big fundraiser of the year as well. The Fun Fair will be held on June 15 after school. There will be supper available and lots of games and activities. Volunteers would be greatly appreciated and could contact the school or any member of the school council. Contact the office if you are able to help with any of these projects. Class pictures will be taken at the school on May 16, and the following day for the alternate kindergarten class. A spring concert, which will include Grades 5 to 8, is planned for May 17. Anyone interested in learning about nutrition and balanced school days is welcome to attend the May 16 school council meeting at 7 p.m. in the school library. There will be a guest speaker from the Huron County Health Unit. A special invitation is extended to any Brussels Public School parents for this information night.
