Livestock for the week ending April
26 were 3,100 head of cattle, 667
lambs and goats. On Tuesday the fed
steers and heifers sold $2 to $3 lower.
The choice steers and heifers sold
$102 to $106 with sales to $114.50.
Second cut sold $98 to $100. Cows
sold $5 to $8 higher. On Thursday
veal sold $2 to $5 higher. Light lambs
sold $5 to $10 higher and heavy
lambs sold steady. Sheep and goats
sold on a steady market. On Friday
calves sold steady and the yearlings
sold under pressure.
There were 513 steers on offer.

The Huron County 4-H Chinchilla
club, show and auction was held at
Walton Hall on April 28. The judges
were Jack Wilkins and Ray Storey.
There were 24 animals to be
judged and sold. Leaders Ray and
Barb Storey organized this day for
the members.
The Show Champion award,
donated by Milton Dietz, was won
by Brendon Boven. His animal was
purchased by the Western Fair for
$130.
The Reserve Champion award,
donated by Ray and Barb Storey was
won by Amber Walton. This animal
was purchased by Ray Storey for
$100.
Claire Fleming had both of her
animals in the top two placings in
her class. Brent Drost and Jessie
Walton also had animals in the top
two places in their class.
These members received a rosette
ribbon for their animals.
Best-groomed animals were
awarded in each of the classes. The
titles went to Brendon Boven, Jessie
Walton and Mitchell Comeau.
Tyler Klassen and Claire Fleming
won the Helen Storey award for
doing a great job on their 4-H books.

auctioned off the chinchillas.
The Chinchilla buyers were: Ray
Storey, Jack Wilkins, Lucknow Co-
op, Fleming Feed Mill, Graeme
Craig Ins., Walton Inn, The Western
Fair, Townsend Tire, Canchilla
(London), Blyth Vet Clinic, Milton
Dietz, Wanda Walton and Elaine and
Paul McNally.
Members had a great morning,
grooming their animals, awaiting the
judges’ results, then selling their
animals.
The Chinchilla Club will resume
again in January.
Evaluation
As the members of the Huron County 4-H Chinchilla Club
presented their animals, the judges, Jack Wilkins (back)
and Ray Storey, inspected every aspect of the animals,
from fur consistency to grooming and graded them for
prospective buyers coming later in the morning. This was
the club’s 11th annual show followed by an auction. (Shawn
