The general meeting and election
for the Brussels Legion were held on
Tuesday evening at the Branch.
There 19 Comrades in attendance.
Special guests were Zone
Commander Shirley Chalmers and
vice-chairman of Ontario Command
– Eric Ross, who conducted the
elections, with Chalmers assisting.
The executive for Branch 218 is
president, Jo-Ann McDonald; first
vice-president, John Lowe; second
vice-president, Deb Cann; treasurer,
Nicole Lowe; secretary, Sandra
Josling; executive, Greg Wilson,
Mabel Glanville, Catrina Josling,
Allyson Cardiff and Andy Overholt;
Sergeant-At-Arms, Lisa Glanville.
The committees mostly have a
chairman but helpers are always
needed and make the jobs so much
easier. Call any member of the
executive if you can help on a
committee. There’s a variety of
committees that need help and
there’s something of interest for all.
The Friday night supper of
sausage and sauerkraut was well
attended. This week is sweet and
sour meatballs.
This is the last week of Thursday
night darts. All those who have
participated during the past year are
reminded to attend for award
presentations and a fun night. Bring
along a snack and enjoy the night.
Comrade Rick McDonald, sports
chairman, attended the District
sports meeting in Paisley on
Saturday.
Comrade John Lowe attended a
training and organizational meeting
in Mount Forest.
Comrade sunder care or in

Workman, Max Oldfield and Gord

The Majestic Women’s Institute

the many different casseroles and
desserts.
After supper there were eight
tables of euchre in play.

Somers, Judy Hahn, Leslie Knight,
Thelma Wilson, Jim Minielly, Mary
Craig, and Mary Davidson.
The proceeds from this event goes
to the Cancer Society.
The draw that Mother Nature has
on the world is truly amazing to
watch. With snow still on the ground
the road hockey equipment hit the
streets and the buggies and wagons
fully occupied did the circuit of
sidewalks.
As the ground began to warm just
a little, the farmers were on the land
and the gardeners were poking about
the dirt checking the flower beds and
empty spaces. Now the air is a little
warmer so the shorts, sandals and t-shirts are regular attire.Don’t you just love the changes inthe people as the seasons go abouttheir routines?Confirmation was the high pointof Sunday worship at both Brusselsand Ethel United Church this week.Lots of learning, listening,
assignments and duties were part of
routine since last fall for the young
people. So in their fine attire with
proud parents, family and friends in
attendance they made their promises
that will serve them well as they
grow into adulthood.
Darby Alcorn, Christine Bone,
Rachel Cousins, Evan Ducharme,
Emily Prior, Taylor Prior, Ty
Sebastian, Alix Sholdice, Andrew
Watson, Zach Watson, and Natalie
White are now members of the
United Church of Canada.
At an earlier service in Ethel,Shannon Adams, Emily Baker,Alyssa Diehl, Curtis McKinnon andJesse McKinnon joined the EthelCharge of the United Church ofCanada. For Sandra Cable it was also avery significant day. As a student inthe United Church many books,
assignments and experiences were
required before Sandra was given
the privilege of serving communion.
So to have this group of good folks
be part of her initial experience is
very special indeed.
So to all of you for your hard work
and serious effort the congregations
thank you.
Browsing a 1948 Brussels Post,
March 24 issue I see that the
Brussels Hardware with the phone
number 63x would sell you sap
buckets, glass and ammunition for a
soft point 22 long rifle. MaxOldfield would still be happy to seeyou come in and ask for these items.Ian McDonald had the phonenumber 3 and wanted you to buy hogconcentrate at 3.90 a bag. Grewar’sphone was 5 and he had Rinso forwhiter, brighter clothes for 29 centsand a new broom for 69 cents. Under
the Business Card section we had
R.S. Hetherington K.C. as the
lawyer with J.F. Harper as the
physician, D.A. Rann & Co. (phone
36 or 85) and Walker were both
running funeral services, F.R. Smith
had the Rexall Store and if you
called 62 he would also sell you
stationery and, in the house where I
live Chas T. Davidson had insurance
of all kinds if you called 96.
So things really are much the
same. Isn’t that neat?
Bye now, Betty G.W.
