A season begins
It was a big night for Blyth Festival supporters on Friday night as the new poster was unveiled
at the season launch. From left: Beth Whitmore of Blyth Printing, Heidi Holdsworth of Creative
Feats, Stratford, who designed the poster, and Festival artistic director Eric Coates. (Keith

The Blyth Festival is searching for
a young actor to play the role of
Young Stompin’Tom Connors in the
return of last season’s hit, The Ballad
of Stompin’ Tom by David Scott,
with songs by Stompin’ Tom
Connors.
Artistic director Eric Coates says
that it would be nice to have an actor
with experience, but that it is not
absolutely necessary. “Sometimes,
the best young actors are the ones
who have never set foot on stage.
They have not developed any bad
habits yet, and that can make the
work go much more easily,” says
Coates.
He adds that the Festival was very
lucky last season to secure the
services of young Curtis te Brinke
from Clinton. “Curtis is a great
example of a young actor who just
has incredible instincts for the job. It
was a real gift to work with him.
Unfortunately, he has grown too
much to play the role again this
year.”
The role covers Stompin’ Tom’s
early years roughly from seven to 11
years of age. The Festival needs an
energetic boy, preferably under 5'
(152 cm) tall, who can start
rehearsals on Aug. 20. This actor will
not be required for every rehearsal,
but he should be available most days
between Aug. 20 and Sept. 5.
Performances begin on Sept. 5 and
run until Sept. 15, seven shows per
week.
The performance schedule can be
viewed online at:
www.blythfestival.com, or in the
Blyth Festival’s season brochure,
available throughout the area at
tourist information booths and
retailers.
Interested actors can send a cover
letter and résumé, including height
and theatre experience to: Blyth
Festival, PO Box 10, Blyth, ON
N0M 1H0, or via e-mail to:

Branch 218 will not host any Zone
functions in the 2007-08 Legion
Year.
The Friday night supper of roast
beef was enjoyed by nearly 30
people. This week will be sausage
and sauerkraut.
Saturday was busy at the Branch.

in third with 79 points were Hilda
Holmes and Florence Broughton.

Euchre wasn’t quite finished when
a busload of 38 Legionnaires from
the Chesley-Paisley area dropped in
for a visit.
Their tour of four Branches began
with Wingham, then Brussels then
off to Listowel and Hanover and
home.
They brought their own singer for
entertainment and the Branch had
plenty of snacks, sandwiches and
goodies for them to enjoy. Everyone
was having a great time.
While the party was on in the
Brussels Branch, the fish fry crew
was off to the Mitchell Branch to
work. The crew fed nearly 150 and
was able to hear their entertainment
Cactus Jam while working. The crew
included Rick and Jo-Ann
Mcdonald, Judy Lee and Jason and
LeeAnn Konarski.
The Thursday night dart league
had 11 darters taking aim at the
boards. The first-place finishers were
John Harrison and Sandra Josling.
Second place went to Harry Smith,

There were several high shots by
the ladies including Catrina’s 122,

Comrades in hospital include Max
Oldfield, Isabel Workman and Gord
Workman. Get well wishes to all.
Congratulations to Jacob McGavin
representing Branch 218 and District
C at the Royal Canadian Legion Area
public speaking at Creemore. His
speech Making a Difference earned
him a second-place finish in the
junior division.
Reports are that it was a very close
competition among the three
speakers. Parents Jeff and Shannon
report they’re very proud of Jacob
and his efforts.

The Huron County Health Unit is
expanding its Health Link
immunization service to the
Wingham area to serve families
without a family physician. Effective
May 16, a Wingham immunization
clinic will be open one afternoon
each month at the Wingham Health
Unit office located in the Wingham
and District Hospital.
Routine immunizations, such as
diphtheria, tetanus, measles, mumps,
and rubella will be given.
“It is critical for Health Link’s
success that all routine
immunizations be booked in
advance,” says Dr. Beth Henning,
medical officer of health. “Booking
appointments in advance will ensure
that Health Unit staff members are
prepared for your family’s specific
immunization needs.”
These changes will help to ensure
that Health Link meets the needs of
the community, by offering
comprehensive and efficient client-
centred care.
The Wingham Health Link clinic
is only available once a month. To
book an appointment, contact the
Huron County Health Unit at 519-
482-3416 or 1-877-837-6143 if
calling long distance. For more
information about Health Link,
contact the Health Unit.
