HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Citizen, 2007-04-26, Page 7Our second taste of spring
was enjoyed on the weekend.
Lawns were raked, rolled and
swept and flowerbeds cleaned
up as well.
The farmers were out
cultivating, spreading
manure, planting both grain
and corn, spreading fertilizer
and readying their equipment.
The dump was a very busy
spot as everyone must have
done a little spring cleaning.
There were some people
who did get out and spend
time cleaning up the roadside
as well. Out the north line,
Jack and Marianna Ryan and
William Ringgenberg and Fay
Love cleaned up both sides of
the road for one-and-a-quarter
miles and recovered about a
truckload and a half of
garbage and recyclables.
Monique Baan and children
Ryan, Adam and Emma did
the roadside along their
property and recovered at
least a couple of bags of
garbage as well. It may only
be a little piece of garbage
that is thrown out the car
window, but if every car
does it, that’s a lot of
garbage. Please remember not
to litter and keep our roadside
cleaner.

THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, APRIL 26, 2007. PAGE 7.
Deputy-mayor Jim
Nelemans will represent
Morris-Turnberry on the
Wingham Are Fire Board,
replacing councillor Bill
Thompson who resigned from
the position.
“Everything we do we’re
criticized for it,” said
Thompson in announcing his
resignation.
Municipalities, including
Morris-Turnberry, had
objected to the purchase of a
new pickup truck for
Wingham fire chief Harley
Gaunt. Some councillors had
also questioned the 52.8 per
cent increase in Morris-
Turnberry’s share of costs
over 2006, due mostly to the
purchase of new fire
protection equipment for the
firefighters.
Thompson also questioned
the voting system used by the
board, which allows one
representative of a
municipality to have two votes
if he is the only person present
from his council.
Nelemans volunteered to fill
the vacancy. He had
previously served on the
board. Morris-Turnberry is
also represented by councillor
Lynn Hoy.
Thompson resigns
from fire board
