Hugh and Betty Millar accepted
an invitation from their son,
Randy, to travel with him to
Chicago, Illinois on the Easter
weekend. Grandson Brad Millar is a
freshman at De Paul University in
Chicago attending on a sports
scholarship.
On the Easter weekend Brad was
competing for his school in a track
meet, the Chicagoland
Championships. In the 16-pound
hammer throw Brad threw 55 metres
for first place and a personal best.
He also placed first in the 800-gram
javelin throw with a toss of 54.72
metres, six metres better than
second place.
Two weeks previously at Southern
Illinois University, Brad threw the
javelin 54.74 metres breaking the
De Paul record of 53.72 that had
stood since 1950.
There were several schools
competing at this track meet and
De Paul was the overall
winner.
Despite very cold weather, the
Millars cheered from the sidelines
for many of the events and also did
some sightseeing.
A grand old time
Smiles were abundant at last weekend’s euchre tournament in Londesborough. A near-full
house played after the bell rang for the first time at 8 p.m. last Friday night. Londesborough
Hall was a busy one this weekend, only to have the card tables swept up and replaced by
breakfast tables for Sunday morning’s breakfast that got going at 9 a.m. (Shawn Loughlin photo)Members of the Londesborough
