Agriculture Brussels Livestock report Thursday’s veal sells $2-$5 lower THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, APRIL 19, 2007. PAGE 13. By Zach Drost, Press Reporter The final meeting of the 4-H Chinchilla Club was held at Ray and Barb Storey’s on April 14 at 10 a.m. Vice-president Dawn Norman opened the meeting with the 4-H pledge. The minutes were read and approved. The final event for the club will be the auction, which will be held on April 28 at the Walton Hall with registration and doors open at 9 a.m. The animals will be judged at 10 a.m. and will be auctioned off at 11 a.m. by Jim Campbell. Anyone wishing to see what the auction is about or that would like to support 4-H and buy a chinchilla is welcome to attend. If you need more information call the Storeys at 519-527-1049. The roll call was answered: by the best quality of members’ chinchillas. They discussed what they can do to improve things like fur strength, clarity, white belly fur, and density (thickness of fur). They also talked about combing their animals. You should never pull out hairs as it leaves holes in the fur. Another tip for show preparation is not sand bathing them one or two days before. Roll call for the sixth meeting was to name two people the member wanted as a buyer for their animal. They talked about the sale and getting buyers to bid on their animals. The Storeys also told how animals should look before they are placed in their show cages. They also discussed about colour phases of chinchillas which means the darkness of the fur. There are six categories ranging from light medium to extra dark. 4-H club prepares for auction Where’s the beef? Well this past weekend if you were wondering where the beef was, it was at the Brussels, Morris and Grey Community Centre all ready to go for a barbeque put on by the Huron County Beef Producers. On the left Jerry Wideman and Bob Bennett on the right get ready to dig into the first of the beef as guests were finding their seats. According to the kitchen staff, they were ready to feed approximately 400 mouths last Saturday night.
