The Citizen, 2007-04-05, Page 25On April 1, Blyth Christian
Reformed Church held Friend
Sunday. Two similar services were
held, one at 9 a.m. and one at 11 a.m.
Many people of the congregation
invited friends and family members
to join them.
Elder Hans Boonstoppel
welcomed everyone.Pastor John Kuperus spoke onJesus being a friend who is there foreach one. The sermon title was,Jesus the Best Friend, with scripture
readings from John 15: 9-17 and II
Kings 5: 1-19a. Pastor John said that
to come to Jesus people don’t need
to know others in high positions, or
have money, only a humble heart
willing to follow him and obey him.
Jesus loves everyone and can set
them free of past hurts and sins, He
is always there for them. He died on
the cross for the forgiveness of allsins. The service was accompanied byJannie Top at the organ and thePraise Band called Redeemed. There
was a lot of joyful music celebrating
Jesus as Saviour.
Jane Klasen called the boys and
girls to the front of the church for a
children’s message which also
focussed on Jesus being a friend.
She interacted with the children by
showing them a messed up drawing
she had done, like an upside down
tree, and a square sun, and asked thechildren if they would be her friendeven though she messed up. Evenwhen people mess up in their lives,Jesus never gives up on them. He’s
still there wanting to be their friend.
Deacon Audrey Bos explained the
offerings. One was for the church
and one for Habitat for Humanity.
While the offering was being held
Walter and Kathy Eigenheer
provided special music. Originally
from Switzerland, the Eigenheers
play the Alp horns. They each played
a horn which is very long, at least 10feet, and lightweight. The end restson the floor. Congratulations is extended toPastor John and his wife Helen on
the birth of a new son on March 30.
The congregation acknowledges
everyone who joined them for
Friend Sunday.
Everyone is invited to the Good
Friday service which will be held at
Friday, April 6 at 10 a.m. and
Sunday for the Easter Service at 10
a.m.

celebrating.
This Lamb would subsequently be
raised from the dead (as Jesus had
predicted several times) and
enthroned as Lord. He will someday
come again as Judge, the one true
Power with whom the created
universe will have to deal.
The early Christians, who were
eyewitnesses, proclaimed to the
point of martyrdom the Resu
rrection as an historical event
which proved Jesus to be undeniably
God’s Son. (Romans 1:4; John
20:30f)
Amazingly, One so holy is also on
our side, for us, not wanting any to
perish but for all to be saved.
(1Timothy 2:4f)
The same night Jesus was
betrayed, He indicated He’d been
praying for Peter who would deny
Him. Thus Peter would be able to
turn around and strengthen the other
disciples. (Luke 22:32)
Such intercession didn’t stop with
Jesus’ earthly life: Romans 8(34)
says He “is at the right hand of God
and is also interceding for us.”
Hebrews 7(25) notes Jesus “is
able to save completely those who
come to God through him, because
he always lives to intercede for
them.”
For those who receive God’s
solution to their sin problem, Jesus
is your prayer partner - He’s got you
covered!
In March, an international team of
18 mathematicians and computer
scientists announced it had solved a
120-year-old puzzle that was long
considered impossible to solve.
The project took some four years
to prepare, then 77 hours to
calculate on a supercomputer,
generating a file over 60 gigabytes
in size.
Project leader Jeffrey Adams said
of the problem itself, “To say what
precisely it is is something even
many mathematicians can’t
understand.”
Clearly beyond the usual person’s
problem-solving ability! Yet our sin-
sickness was infinitely more huge to
tackle.
I’m so thankful Easter shows no
problem is too big for Jesus to
handle. He makes our “Fatal Error”
history.
