NEWS
FROM LONDESBORO
There was a congenial mixing of
the generations at the
Londesborough Community Hall
on Wednesday, March 28. The
Happy Gang Seniors had as their
guests that afternoon five young
folk from Hullett Central Public
School. Alana Roy, Kelly Cook,
Courtney Middegaal, Lexi Aitkin
and Emily Allen said the speeches
they had prepared for the schools
in-house public speaking
competition a few weeks earlier.
The speeches gave the older
generation an insight into what is
interesting the younger generation
these days.
The Happy Gang is hosting the
33rd annual spring rally for seniors
in this district at the Betty Cardno
Centre in Clinton on April 19.
Details for the day were discussed
last Wednesday. Marie Smith is to
be the event’s guest speaker and she
will bring news of everything the
USCO is working on that will
ultimately benefit seniors across
Ontario.
Len Archambault mentioned that
the Seniors’ Games are upcoming
and he would welcome participants
in the various events.

The anthem by the senior choir at
Londesborough United Church on
April 1, Hosanna to the King set the
proper tone for Palm Sunday.
The celebration of Christ’s
triumphant entry into Jerusalem on a
donkey was similar to a parade with
crowds of people cheering and
waving branches or banners and
following Him.
The entry was a happy time for
Christ, yet it was tinged with
sadness for He knew what the events
of the rest of the week were to be.
These dark, sad emotions give
another name to this day, Passion
Sunday.
The boys and girls handed out
palm leaf crosses to congregants
before heading downstairs to
Sunday School.
In her message to the adults, titled
Live the Moment, Rev. Cook
remarked how easy it is to be caught
up in the moment, to be part of a
crowd. These times bring no risks
and no demands.
Palm Sunday was a high moment
for Jesus and the people. As
Christians sing the triumphant
hymns of the season, they can get
caught up in the spirit also.
It was a week of highs and lows
for Jesus. Later on Palm Sunday, He
went to the temple and upset many
folk by throwing the dealers out.
This was a low moment full of
anxiety and fear for the people of
Jerusalem. Events at the Last Supper
had the disciples wondering if the
end was near.
All experience highs and lows
throughout their lives. Rev. Cook
suggested that if persons live the
moments trusting God they will
survive the lows and enjoy amazing
highs which will signal new
beginnings.
Assisting Rev. Cook with
communion were Helen Lyons,
Helen Dale, Cheryl Trewartha, Betty
Archambault, Mark Mitchell and
Carmen Drost.
The Good Friday service will be
held at Knox United in Auburn at 11
a.m.
The senior choir will gather for
practice at 10 a.m. on Easter Sunday.
The UCW April 16 meeting will
be a “share a project night”. Bring
along a current hobby or interest to
show and tell. Also bring along a
donation for the baking basket for
Camp Menesetung.

Since last September, men from
the area have been gathering at the
Clinton Crown Lanes in Clinton
once a week as part of the
Londesborough Men’s Bowling
League.
On Thursday, March 29, with the
season over for another year, they
held their year-end banquet and
awards night. The meal was catered
by women of the Londesborough
United Church.
This year’s winning team was
Carl Stevenson, Terry Richmond,
Dennis Valenta, Tom Vandevusse
and Trent Graf. Brian Pickard, Doug
Trewartha, Hank Vandereijk and
Jake Rylaarsdam were the second-
place team.
Alex Westerhout won the high
average trophy with a score of 188.
Carl Stevenson rolled the high triple
of 729. The pins just kept falling one
night for Henry Hummel who took
home the high single trophy for a
score of 315. Increasing his overall
average by 29 points over the season
gave Murray Cole the distinction of
being the most improved bowler.
Perfect attendance was noted for
Jack Lee, Bill Kolkman, Al Fisher,
Murray Cole and Jake Rylaarsdam.
Team four won the high team single
of 256 and the high team triple of
465 was scored by Team five.
In the playoffs, team four finished
first, team one placed second and
team six rolled to third place.
