The Citizen, 2007-03-29, Page 23Stratford Festival of Canada’s artistic director Richard Monette regrets to announce that William Hutt has withdrawn from the 2007 season citing health reasons. Hutt was scheduled to start rehearsals for the role of Tobias in Edward Albee’s A Delicate Balance at the end of May. “I realize I cannot fulfill the requirements of a highly concentrated rehearsal and performance schedule, and do the best work I can in the role, in the play, and in support of the rest of the cast,” explained Hutt. “So, it is with the deepest and most painful regret that I feel I must withdraw from the production of A Delicate Balance in the current Stratford season, and offer my most profound apologies for the problems and inconvenience I’m sure it will cause.” Hutt said that his decision was based on consultation with his medical team and with “a realistic personal assessment of my condition and abilities.” Monette said, “I’m incredibly sad that Bill has had to with- draw from the season. I know how much he was looking forward to doing this play and I was very much looking forward to sharing my last season as artistic director with him. I know that this was an agonizing decision for Bill to make, as he is a consummate professional and so dedicated to his craft. He is a national treasure.” “We are very supportive of Bill’s decision to withdraw for health reasons, and we send him all our best wishes,” said general director Antoni Cimolino. “Bill is an extraordinary actor, and I regret that he will not be in the Company this season to share his enormous gift with those around him, especially the next generation of actors.” “Bill’s ability to hold as ’twere the mirror up to nature is such a rare talent and one from which we have learned so much.” THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, MARCH 29, 2007. PAGE 23. How would you describe a sunsetto someone who, by chance, hadnever seen one? Would it be abrilliant symphony winding down,or a burning fire alive with flames ofromance and inspiration? Words sometimes seem inadequate to convey the humbling awe of a sun laid to rest under the blanket of Lake Huron, or a freshly harvested farmer’s field. The challenge to capture the true feeling given by nature’s lullaby doesn’t stop at the dictionary. The Huron Camera Club (HCC) is testing the lens, and inviting everyone to submit their best photos of the world at last light– after all; a picture is worth a thousand words. The HCC, in partnership with Community Living Central Huron (CLCH), is calling for sunset shots for Last Light, a photo contest and sale in memory of HCC founding member Sarah Mann. “Sarah’s sunset photos are breathtaking,” said HCC member Mark Nonkes. “She was a passionate photographer and we wanted to honour her in a meaningful way.” The life of 23-year-old Mann came to a tragic end in July 2006 when her car collided with another vehicle on Hwy. 8 east of Clinton. Being one of Mann’s most cherished subjects, sunsets now represent her eternal goodnight to many in the HCC.The contest, open to anyone, willshowcase the theme at the GoderichLibrary. An openingday reception will beheld in the main foyerof the library May 5from 1 - 3 p.m. andphotos will remain on site for viewing until May 19. Awards donated by The Goderich Signal-Star and Carman’s Foto Source in Goderich will be presented for viewer’s choice, and best in show determined by judges. “She had an ability to capture the end of the day that was inspiring,” said Nonkes. “After she’d show me her shots I’d run out the next night and wait for sun to set, hoping to capture something as beautiful as she had. But hers were always better – she had a natural gift to see the lake, the countryside at the end of the day that not many others did.” Mann’s family, parents Lynne and Steve and sister Jessica Mann of Lucknow, are working with the HCC to bring the exhibit together. TheLast Light contest and fundraiserwill celebrate Mann as a talented young woman who shared her smile, work and life with all she encountered. The theme pays tribute to her work, and the CLCH partnership acknowledges herdedication to the organization and itsmembers.“We’re verypleased to be a partof this and honouringSarah and hermemory,” saidCLCH executive director Rosemary Foran. “We hope people come out and support it.” Submissions can be made at the front desk of the Goderich Library, or received by mail to Last Light Photo Contest and Sale, c/o Goderich Library, 52 Montreal Street, Goderich, ON, N7A 2G4. Submission deadline is April 27 at 8 p.m. “All photos will be for sale, so there is a great opportunity to take home a piece of Huron’s beauty, or give it as a gift,” said Nonkes. “All proceeds from the sale are going directly to Community Living, so it’s a fantastic cause.” For an official entry form and more information on the Last Lightphoto contest, or the HCC, visit theclub website atwww.hardknockdesigns.com/camera or call 519-525-1627.But, with every contest, there arerules:• One entry per person• Must be 5 x 7 or 8 x 10 in size • Must fit the theme of last light, shots from the end of the day • Must be hard copy - digital submissions not accepted • Must include photographer’s name, contact information, and location of shot. The HCC is a free, non-for-profit organization. It is an informal environment that hopes to inspire and encourage its members to become better photographers through monthly meetings, photo assignments and presentations, exhibitions, field trips and guest speakers. The HCC was established in the fall of 2004 when a group of Signal- Star employees gathered to create an informal network to improve their photography skills. While the initial meetings were held in a living room, word quickly spread and soon the organization was moved to the Goderich Library. Currently, the HCC has more than a dozen regular members, and is open for anyone to join. You (yes, you!) can fight cancer by becoming a volunteer with the Canadian Cancer Society. All you need to do is spend three hours selling daffodils or canvassing door to door, and you’ll be helping us fund research to help more Canadians survive cancer. And that’s a powerful thing. Three hours for you, a lifetime to a cancer survivor. To volunteer, visit cancer.ca/volunteerpower or contact your local Canadian Cancer Society office. Did you know you have cancer-fighting powers?
