Brussels played a very strong offence, taking 46 shots on net. Mount Forest only took 19. The game was very fierce between these two teams. Both teams played very hard to outskate the other. A Mount Forest player scored the lone Brussels goal when Logan Clarke took a shot and it went off the Mount Forest player’s skate into the net. Mount Forest netted their goal against Austin Johnston later in the third, to tie the game at 1-1. The game went into a 10-minute sudden-death overtime, with no clear winner. This was the second sudden-death game for Brussels in this series. The last game for Brussels will be tonight (Thursday) in Teeswater. The team with the most points will take the WOAA Atom LL title. Brussels currently has six points, Mount Forest has five, and Teeswater has two. 2.75%*Heartland Home Equity Loan *Introductory rate. O.A.C. Terms & conditions apply. Debbie Gammie was a 6-4 winner over Mary Henry. Earl Fitch edged Russ Taylor 6-5 and Bill DeVos was an 8- 7 winner over Rob Middleton. Aart DeVos showed no mercy downing Dean Newson 9-3 and Calvin Ruttan was a runaway 12-3 winner over Shawn Cottrill. *** In the Wednesday mixed league playoff action three teams remain undefeated after two weeks of playoffs. Wayne Horton hit the win board with a 9-4 victory over Steve Burke. Aart DeVos defeated Earl Fitch 8-2. John Dailleboust remained undefeated, eking out a 5-4 victory over Leanne Elston and Tammy Adams downed Dean Newson. *** In the Thursday mixed league Mike Cottrill had great ring control with a 13-3 win over Cam Alton. Kevin Bishop ran up a 10-3 win over Elliott Miller while daughter Kayla lost a close one 8-7 to Bill McDonald. *** In the daytime league on Monday the results were: Lloyd Wheeler 10, Ron McMichael 3; Irving Elliott 9, Mac Inglis 8; Stewart Leedham 13, Norm Fairles 1; Bruce Robertson 7, Glenn McMichael 4; Les Shaw 11, Wendell Stamper 2; Ivan Dow 6, Nelson Frank 5 and Jim Coultes 9, Dusty Henry 4. There were some really wild scores on Thursday. Results were: Wendell Stamper 12, Ron McMichael 4; Mag Inglis 11, Glenn McMichael 8; Bruce Robertson 10, Norm Fairles 3; Lloyd Wheeler 8, Les Shaw 6; Nelson Frank 11, Dusty Henry 8. Stewart Leedham downed Jim Coultes 11-4 thanks to a scoop-loaded shot by one of the Coultes rink which wiped Coultes four counters off the rings. In the other game it was a real battle between Irving Elliott and Ivan Dow. It looked like Ivan with pastoral help was wellon his way to a win but the Elliott foursome came up with abig seventh end to be down one without the hammer goinginto the eighth end. They managed to steal one in the eighth to send the game into an extra end and with a well buried shot the Elliott foursome gained the win 8-7. *** The Belgrave curlers played their second double header for the second week in a row. In the opener, both Vincents came up with wins as Joyce Vincent edged Cathy Goetz 5-4 while husband Murray recorded a 10-4 win over Ruth Olson. Bruce Howson recorded his third win of the playoffs in a low scoring 3-2 win. The other game left a little aroma as Linda Meier skunked Dave Linton 9-0. In the night-cap action, there were some very close scores: Dave Linton 4, Bruce Howson 3; Jim Scott 5, Ruth Olson 4; Murray Vincent 5, Cathy Goetz 4; Joyce Vincent 5, Linda Meier 4. *** The Wingham Golf and Curling Club annual meeting was held on March 21 with president Mary Henry opening the meeting with the chairperson’s report. The financial report was given by Tom Deyell. Cathy Goetz, curling chair, outlined the activity for the year making special mention of the great success of the junior curlers. Dennis Knox, golf chair, reported on golf plans and outlined ongoing maintenance and upgrading of the course. The club will continue with a tree planting program in April with trees planted along the west border of the course as well as along the back hole beside the river. Trees will be planted on the east side of the driving range, to be used for future placement on the course. The board has carefully considered and approved a new layout of the holes for the 2007 season. This should be a positive change for the course with the major benefit having the finishing hole close to the clubhouse to direct more traffic into the clubhouse. Jim Ross gave the property report indicating in the past year a new aerator and used fairway mower were purchased. A new nipper was purchased for the curling operations and a new dishwasher and chairs purchased for the clubhouse. Items on the agenda for the coming year include replacement of fuel tanks and work along the laneway road due to excessive river erosion.Mary Henry introduced the new pro shop manager andgolf co-ordinator Dave Merian. The directors for the coming year will be the same as thepast year: Mary Henry, Tom Deyell, Ken Ducharme, Tim Coultes, Bob Foxton, Dean Newson, Jim Ross and John Kuyvenhoven with Cathy Goetz as curling representative and Dennis Knox as golf representative. *** Merian comes to us from Goderich Maitland Golf Course where he was assistant pro. Dave is a graduate of Georgian College Pro Golf Management Course. In the past he has good schooling on the job having worked on the course cutting grass etc., working the pro shop and giving lessons. Many of the ladies will remember the very informative group lessons Dave gave last year. He hopes to work with youth and has plans for many students for the junior golfers. Dave is a scratch golfer and I’m sure many top golfers are anxious to challenge him. This scribe advised Dave that he’ll find the Wingham nine much harder than the Maitland Course to master. *** Now the grass is beginning to show. Remember if you want lower cart rental and free driving range privileges membership must be paid by March 31. A good number have already been out to pay their memberships and are just itching for the golf season to start. *** It’s never over until it’s over. This was certainly the case in the play for the June Casemore trophy. The Friday night season winners after five ends were ahead of the Thursday night winners 7-2 but the youthful Thursday nighters didn’t give up and came on strong and stealing two in the last end came up with an 8-7 win and the Casemore Cup. Youthful members of the winning team are Kyle Forster, Ainslie Weishar, Kayla Bishop and Matthew Cottrill. *** Last kick at the cat will be the ice B-gone bonspiel on April 1. This will be fun, fun galore as Bruce Pewtress has a rather unique bonspiel planned. There is no entry fee. Forget everything you know about curling. Bring your neighbour, your kids and friends. There will be continuous starts every 15 minutes beginning at 10 a.m. Lunch will follow. Rock Talk – By Bill Johnston
