First at first
The first -place winners of the November-December draw
at Brussels Curling Club received their trophy at the year-
end meeting on Friday night. Earning 43 points to take the
top prize were skip Ernie Lewington (absent), vice Rose
Kellington, second Jo-Ann McDonald and lead Diana

Brussels Curling Club ends season with awardsBrussels Curling Club held itsannual meeting on Monday evening,March 19.The meeting was opened with thesecretary treasurer, Susan Alexanderreading the minutes of the 2006annual meeting. The treasurer’s report was read.Three more long handles will bepurchased.The president, Jo-Ann McDonaldthanked everyone for their supportduring the past year.There was a discussion on purchasing an ice leveller. Gary Pipemade the motion that the Club lookinto getting a grant.The election of officers for 2007-2008 was conducted. They are: pastpresident, Jo-Ann McDonald;president, Steve Knight; first vice-president, Joe Ryan; second vice-president, Sandra Josling; secretary-treasurer, Susan Alexander; pressreporter, Janice Bray; drawcommittee, Brenda McIntosh, Steve Steiss, Brian Warwick; icecommittee, Merv Bauer. The incoming president, SteveKnight thanked McDonald for herwork as president this past year.

were Alton, Kuik with three and
Brittney Peters. Assists went to
Freiburger and Quennell.
The quarter finals began at 1:45
p.m. on Wednesday and ended with
a 2-0 win against St. Clair. Scoring
was Freiburger, assisted by Kuik,
and VanderVeen unassisted. The
shutout went to Wheeler.
In Game five on Thursday the girls
ran into some tough competition and
they suffered their first loss in
overtime, 3-2 against Bishop
Tonnos. Scoring for Madill were
DeeDee Schiestel and Freiburger.
Assisting were Quennell and
Whitfield on both goals. The loss
went to Wheeler.
This put them against Trinity.
They came out with a 1-0 win and
the bronze medal.
The shutout went to Wheeler.
Scoring the lone goal was
Freiburger, assisted by Kuik.
In order to qualify to go to
OFSAA they had to win WOSSAA
(Western Ontario).
March 7 they played in the
WOSSAA tourney in Exeter. They
defeated the TVRRA II team from
Huron Park with a score of 4-0 then
went on to win the finals against
TVRRA I team from St. Joseph’s
with a score of 3-0.
Freiburger got a hattrick in the
final game and Wheeler played an
outstanding two games in net with
shutouts in both.
They also had to win at the Huron
Perth Finals which F.E. Madill
hosted in Wingham on a blustery
Thursday, Feb. 15. They recorded a
win against Listowel and a first time
3-1 win over St. Mike’s.
Another accomplishment this
season was the gold medal from the
York Classic Tournament on Feb.
15-16, in Toronto where they won 2-
0 in the final game against
Stouffville, the gold medalist at
OFSAA.
