Certified gold
Some of Brussels Skating Club’s highest honours were

gold medal is the highest level in Canadian testing. Their
names will be inscribed on the plaque between them,
donated by coach Michelle Blake. (Shawn Loughlin photo)

Pledges for skating
At the skate-a-thon for the Brussels Skating Club, some rose above the rest, bringing in the
most pledges, therefore contributing more to the cause. The members of this group all took
home prizes for their efforts. From left: Jordyn Sholdice, Matt McNichol, Lauren McNichol,
McKenzie McNichol, Luke McCutcheon, Austin Stevenson and Adam Cousins. (Shawn Loughlin

There are so many people out there who do
so much to improve their community.
Now you have a chance to say thanks.
Nominate that special person for the 22nd

Each year a committee chooses an outstanding citizen from each of the Blyth and area
and Brussels and area communities to receive an award for contribution to the
community. If you know someone you think should be honoured, please fill in the ballot
and send it in. You may attach a longer explanation of why you think your nominee
should win, if you like. If you have nominated someone before and he or she didn't win,

Hold on
This young skater refused to let
go of his skating helper. He
was part of a skate-a-thon
which benefited the Brussels
Skating Club. Participants
gathered pledges and skated
to their heart’s content, when
they were on their skates.
