On Feb. 19 the team hostedSeafforth and fell just short with ascore of 1-0 for the visitors. After a scoreless first period, Seaforth snuck one past goalie Dustin Treble. Blyth played a great game, but just couldn’t get into the net. On Feb. 21 Mitchell came to town. The visitors struck with a goal in the first. Then Dylan Walton put one in the net with help from Dalton Richmond and Dylan Bromley. Mitchell put another one away before the period ended to take a one-goal lead into the second. The score remained that way throughout the middle period. Later in the third, Blyth tied it when Curtis Raynard skated in to score. Assists went to Jimmy Lane and Ryan Plunkett. An overtime period failed tochange the results. Solid in net was Dalton Carey. On Feb. 24 the team suffered a lossat the hands of a visiting Milvertonteam. Carey and Treble shared time between the pipes with Carey taking his turn for the first and second periods. Milverton took a big lead early in the game with two-first period goals. Minutes into the second period they brought the lead to three. Josh VanSoest and Raynard set up the play for Blyth to finally get on the scoreboard. Kyle Pollard got the goal. Unfortunately, two minutes later Milverton put another between the pipes to put the score at 4-1 going into the third. That’s the way the game remained as Blyth was unable to add to their tally. The Blyth Tyke II team has had a rough February. Blyth went down 12-7 at the hands of Monkton last Saturday in a wild game with tons of scoring. Tied going into the second period, Monkton scored eight goals in the second to Blyth’s three. Colton Rodger was the standout for Blyth, scoring a hattrick and one assist. Gavin Workman scored a goal and two assists and Dawson Coultes, Jeremy Wilts and Owen Andrews all scored goals for Blyth. Shelby Higgins was in net for Blyth. On Feb. 17, Blyth travelled to Brussels, losing 5-1 to the home team. Blyth’s only goal came off Rodger’s stick. Rough month for Blyth Tyke IIs Blyth falls short The Brussels Atom Local League won both games last week. Last Wednesday night they hosted BCH. Brussels won 5-1. While several attempts to score were tried by Logan Clarke, Reece McArter and Taylor Higgins, it was Lexi Smith who was the most successful, netting four of the five shots. Tim Waechter also put one in the net. Curt Bloemberg, Scott Dolmage and Jason Baxter each picked up an assist. Goalie Austin Johnston was very solid in net. Saturday, Brussels hosted Elma Logan. After several attempts were made to score, it was Colton Hastings who put Brussels on the scoreboard. He skated in from the blueline, past several players from both teams to sail it in past the Elma Logan goalie. That goal set the tone for the rest of the Brussels team. Bloemberg picked up a goal with the assist of Waechter. Smith scored the third goal, with an assist by Scott Dolmage. Johnston was working very hard to earn a shutout when Elma Logan squeaked one past him with only 43 seconds left on the lock. Brussels skated away with the 3-1 victory. Awesome defence came from Nic Zwep, Luke McCutcheon, McArter and Dolmage. Out to win It was good news for Brussels hockey fans on Saturday morning when the local Atoms downed Elma Logan by a score of 3-1. The first game was a close one in Brussels that nevertheless had the home side on the losing side. The final score was 4-3. The second game was another loss for Brussels with a big score for Belmont and a whitewash of Brussels. The locals had travelled for this one and, never gave up despite the 4- 0 result.
