broomball team competed in the
Junior Provincial Broomball
Championships at Lefroy this
weekend.
Their first game Friday afternoon
matched them up against the Windsor
Riot. The Riot game out strong and
took control off the start.
The Dynamite got their game
together and with Alex Sanders
netminding were able to keep the
Riot off the scoreboard. The
Dynamite scored late in the first
period as Morgan Bos took the ball
the length of the ice and passed off to
Jessica Kuik who put the ball away.
Midway through the second period
the Riot scored to tie the game. Both
teams had chances to take the game
but it ended in a tie.
The Dynamite’s second game was
against the Rug Rats. This is a new
team to the league with little
experience. The Dynamite had a little
trouble getting the first goal, then
coasted to a 6-0 win.
Michael Lalonde scored twice with
assists going to Kendall Black and
Brittany Boyce. Zack Berwick scored
with Morgan Bos picking up the
assist. Jessica Kuik went the length of
the ice to score her goal. Gerrit
Logtenberg scored twice, with
Krystal Youngloa and Carlene
Bremner assisting.
On Saturday the Dynamite faced
the Ottawa Warriors. The Warriors
are a good team with a lot of bigger
players.
At first the Dynamite had trouble
keeping up with the Warriors.
Morgan Gwalchmai, Sarah Steele,
and Emilie Hogan on defense helped
to knock the Warriors off their game.
Alex Sanders had an outstanding
performance in net for the Dynamite
and only allowed one goal in the first
period. The second period was more
of a see saw battle between the two
teams but the Dynamite offense could
not find the net and the Warriors held
their one-goal lead for the win.
This loss eliminated the Dynamite
from the tournament.

The Blyth Novice Dogs had a busy
weekend full of hockey.
Friday, Feb. 9, they traveled to
Brussels for their last regular season
game. Although Brussels tried
hard they could not get on the
scoreboard.
Blyth’s goals were scored by

with two each and Brandon Marshall
with one. Assists were given to

Franklin Marshall.
Saturday, Feb. 10, the Novice
Lions tournament was held at the
Blyth arena. The Blyth team played
its first game at 11 a.m. against
Thamesford. This proved to be a
tough game for most of the team as
the goals were more against than
for.
Blyth’s two lone goals were scored
by Chad Treble and B. Marshall,
with assists going to Justin Rodger
and Drew Bromley.
The final score was 8-2.
Blyth played its second game
against Milverton. Blyth has played
them in regular season and could
never come up on the winning end.
The Dogs were out to prove that
they could beat Milverton, and that
they did. It may not have seemed so
for the first two periods with no
goals being scored by Blyth.
Milverton scored the first goal in the
second period to gain the lead.
Blyth was not down and out
however. They scored four goals in
the third period to claim a victory
against their opponents.

with assistance from Dawson
Coultes and B. Marshall. Blyth’s
next goals were scored by B.
Marshall with two and Treble with
one. Assisting the goal scorers were
Weber with three, and Coultes and
B. Marshall.
Stopping the shots on net was
Franklin Marshall.
Blyth’s third game saw them
playing in the A semi-final on
Sunday, Feb. 11 at 1 p.m. They faced
Thamesford again. This game was a
better played hockey game on
Blyth’s part with a lot of effort been
shown by all the players. They could
not however, pull off the win. The
lone goal for Blyth was scored by B.
Marshall unassisted. The final score
was 6-1.
Coaches for the Novices are Jeff
Bromley, Todd MacDonald and
Darrell Weber.
Each player received a puck from
the Lions club.
The Novice begin playoffs
sometime this weekend.

The Blyth PeeWee girls hockey
team played an exciting game of

Ayton. The girls’game ended in a 2-
2 tie which gave them their first
point of the season.
Needless to say they were just a
little excited.

was Nicole Middegaal, unassisted.
The second goal was scored by
MacKenzie Nesbitt, who plays for
the Atom girls team. She was
assisted by Kayla Dayle and Laura
Higgins.
The defence, consisting of Kelsie
Kerr, Lauren Cronin and Higgins,
worked hard to keep the puck out of
Blyth’s end and give Justine Reid, a
break.
Forwards, Courtney Middegaal,
Ashley Higgins, Becca Chalmers,
Nesbitt and Middegaal had many
scoring opportunities but couldn’t
break the tie.
The next game for the girls is
Saturday, Feb. 17 at 12:30 p.m. in
