A Lions’ breakfast
The Auburn Lions hosted their annual Valentine’s Day breakfast Feb. 11.
People braved the elements with good cause to eventually reach a good
meal Sunday morning. There were smiles all around with pancakes on the
menu this morning. (Shawn Loughlin photo)
THE EDITOR,It has been brought to ourattention recently, that in anedition of The Citizen, therewas a picture stating, “KaitlynMichie won a ride on the
zamboni…”.
We would like to point out
that the machine in the pictureis not a Zamboni IceResurfacer. Zamboni is aregistered trademark of FrankJ. Zamboni & Co., Inc., forice resurfacing machines and
other products that it
manufactures and distributes.
We introduced the first icesurfacer to the sports worldover 40 years ago and it hasbeen copied but neverduplicated. We’ve invested much
money, effort and pride to
make and keep Zamboni
products the best available. Please remember that ourtrademark is always acapitalized adjective (…aZamboni Ice Resurfacer) andnever a noun (…a zamboni).
In addition, our trademark
“Zamboni” should never beused to describe machinesproduced by anothermanufacturer. We appreciate thisopportunity to explain the
proper usage of our
trademark. If we can provideany additional explanation orinformation, please let usknow or visit our website:www.zamboni.comFrank J. Zamboni

The County of Huron is
currently ironing out the
details to allow a permanent
hazardous waste site to be in
place at the MidHuron
transfer station on Hwy. 8,
near Holmesville.
Planning director Scott
Tousaw told council, at
the Feb. 7 meeting, that
staff will use an underutilized
shed as the hazardous-waste
depot.
Though, he noted, several
modifications will first
have to be made to the
structure.
Tousaw said it is
anticipated the county will
reimburse site staff for their
time on targeted hazardous
waste drop-off days.
He added that the transfer
station will only be open two
of three days a week rather
than six.
Council also learned
negotiations are ongoing
about the possibility of
turning a Wingham landfill
site into a county-wide
one.
Tousaw said a public
liaison committee has been
meeting with neighbouring
property owners whose top
concerns are groundwater
and property-value
protection.
He said one of the
options in terms of proper-
ty value protection is for
the county to guarantee
property values at the rate
prior to the environmental
assessment.
Huron East councillor
Bernie MacLellan suggested
such a scenario could open
up the possibility of proper-
ty owners who sell their
homes for cut-rate prices to
friends and then share the
proceeds.
Tousaw said the intent of
the agreement is to preserve
market value.
“I don’t think it’s a
potential for a moneymaking
scheme,” he said.
Warden Deb Shewfelt of
Goderich noted a third-party
value would be established,
preventing such a scenario.
