We would also like to thank our suppliers for their generous donations of door prizes. We appreciate your support and encouragement. The Gulutzen Families and the Grain Stoves Staff Mrs. Smith has organized a junior chess club again this term for Grades 2, 3 and 4 students at Grey Central Public School. Children who are interested in learning and expanding their knowledge of this game meet every Tuesday and Thursday during their second break. Everyone is reminded to keep on collecting Campbell Soup labels. They are used by the school, check out http://www.labelsforeducation.com and you will see the points received from these labels can be used towards the purchase of musical instruments, fitness equipment, sports, arts, books and many more educational products. The next school council meeting will be Wednesday, Feb. 14 at 7 p.m. at the school. There will be a guest speaker from the health unit who will talk about nutrition and smart lunches. Babysitting available and refreshments will be served. The schools continue to receive new guidelines from the province to encourage healthy foods within the schools. This information evening is open to anyone interested from the school or community. Grey Central student Matthew Terpstra placed first in his division at the freethrow competition sponsored by The Knights of Columbus in Wingham on Jan. 27. He went on to compete on Feb. 3 at St. Anne’s in Clinton where he came in second. Congratulations Matt! Also in Wingham Kelsey Gulutzen, Chelsey Terpstra, Hailey Bachert, Tori Cardiff and Leah Davidison placed second and Aurel Myers, Eden Rapson, Dustin Lichty and Anthony Lichty placed third. Other students taking part were: Nikki Van Brugge, Jordyn Sholdice, Shannan Kehoe, Emily Prior, Morgan Dietner, Kai Hiemstra, Nick Kuepfer, Josh LeBlanc, Isaac Baker, Jonathan Blake, Brock McLean, Curtis Terpstra, Ryan Davidson, David Spek and Scott Stephenson. All participants deserve credit for excellent involvement, team spirit and sportsmanship. Special thanks to all parents who supported their children’s participation by transporting them to and from the tournament and to Mr. Payne, Mrs Strome and Mr. Snell, along with Danny Donkers, Shea MacLean and Lukas Hammermueller, who held the tryouts and the school event.
