PAGE 7.Despite the fact that the weatherwas somewhat uncertain the eveningof Jan. 15, a good number of womenwere in attendance for the regularmonthly meeting of theLondesborough UCW. As it was the first meeting of the new year, the program and devotional time centred on ‘resolutions’ and was conducted by Harriett Shillinglaw, Helen Lee, Yvonne Hoggart and Marie Bromley. The most common resolutions made by folks at the beginning of each new year are more or less predictable – improve health by losing weight, eating better and exercising more, quit smoking, improve relationships, become abetter person, volunteer, etc.Unfortunately, people have atendency to shoot too high whenmaking resolutions andconsequently fail. The ladies offered some advice for being more successful. It was suggested one needs to be more realistic with their quest by being specific about their aims and breaking the resolutions into smaller units. That way a little success will encourage a person to continue to the next plateau. Finding behaviour alternatives will help you aim for what is really important to you. Several Bible verses indicated that a person needs to be determined andfaithful in their quest for happinessin life. Moreover God’s love is everpresent to give strength. A humorousreading about changes in diet needed for the new year had everyone thinking of their own cupboards and refrigerator. Look for the potential, not the flaws, in all aspects of life, home, work, family and relationships, was the advice that was offered for everyone to strive toward in 2007. President Barb Bosman made those present aware of the UCW Presbyterial annual meeting to be held in Brucefield on Monday, Jan. 29. Also she noted thatLondesborough will host thePresbyterial Spring Event onWednesday,April 18. Details for thisevent will be settled at a later date. A big thank you is offered to all who made the Christmas fundraise a success. The Christmas mugs sales saw a profit of $720. These monies will help with our work at home and abroad in 2007. Continuing the women’s objec- tive to assist with improvements to the church building, a project for 2007 was discussed pen- ding approval by the official board. Auburn Women’s Institute hears a happy new year recipe UCW holds first meeting of 2007 Ann Potter continues to be a patient in the Stratford hospital although Gordon seems to feel there has been some improvement in her condition. Your concern for her and her family will no doubt be needed for some time yet. Last September Harry and Gail Lear celebrated their golden wedding anniversary with family gatherings. A celebration had been planned by the church choir members and Londesborough neighbours for quite some time. But the timing for the party became a problem. However Friday evening we did manage to surprise them. Despite blustery weather outside there was a great social time in the Londesborough Hall with a little food, a gift or two, some singing and even a recitation. Obviously it was too good a time for Harry had a little upset overnight which caused him to speaks of God’s constant love for us. The anthem offered by the senior choir coincidentally was titled “Herein Is Love”. Anyone wishing baptism for their family needs to contact the church office this week. Confirmation classes will con- tinue on Monday, Feb. 19. Anyone interested in these classes should speak to Rev. Cook by Feb. 5. On Jan. 17 the ladies of the Londesborough Cheerio Club joined the Diners’Club at the Betty Cardno Centre in Clinton for a noon meal. Local chiropractor Carolyn Wood spent August of 2006 in Zanzibar, Africa working in a chiropractic clinic treating native patients. Although the clinic is an established one, the staff there relies on help from chiropractors from around the world to lend their expertise on a volunteer basis. Carolyn and her three child- ren had an experience of a lifetime living, working and sharing life with the peoples in Zanzibar. All of them have countless stories to tell of their time there. Carolyn shared some of her stories and showed pictures to the diners at the Betty Cardno Centre this afternoon. Dorothy Johnston opened the business part of the Cheerio Club’s gathering with a serenity prayer. Roll call was answered with humorous readings. Edythe Beacom won the gift of the month given by Marie Glou- sher. The remainder of their time together was spent playing cards. The club will meet again on Feb. 21.
