The Stainton Midget Rep team is
on a roll heading into WOAA
playoffs later this week.
In Durham last Monday, with a
short bench due to illness and
suspensions, Wingham took a 6-4
win from the hosts. Maitland
Underwood and Graham Ashcroft
had strong games with two goals and
two assists each.
Greg Tiffin added a goal and a pair
of assists, with Chris Jutzi adding
the sixth goal.
Other assists in the game went to
Kyle Ritchie, Blake Scott, Andrew
Baker and Nathan Thomson. Niall
Jones had the win in net.
At home to Ripley on Thursday,
Wingham handed the SilverStick
champions a 6-3 setback.
After giving up a goal in the first
minute, Wingham turned around and
played a strong game in both ends of
the rink. Ashcroft added another
two goals with Jutzi, Ben Gowing,
Cameron Chaffe and Jordan
Campbell getting the others.
Assists went to Chaffe, Gowing
and Jutzi with two each, and
Underwood, Tyler Stewart and Wade
Stephenson one apiece. Goaltender
Sean Cook got the win.
Wingham will play Seaforth in the
first round of playoffs, hosting game
one Thursday, Jan. 18 at 9:30 p.m.
and heading to Seaforth for
Saturday, Jan. 20. Game three will
be determined by a coin toss prior to
game one and will be played
Sunday.
The Blyth Novice Rep team
kicked 2007 off right with a win at
home against Elma-Logan.
Blyth won the contest by a score
of 4-1 thanks largely to a three-goal
third period.
Dave Hunter was in goal and took
the win for Blyth. Brandon Marshall
and Chad Treble both contributed
two goals and one assist apiece.
Cody Treble had two assists in the
game, with Jordan Hubbard and
Drew Bromley both contributing an
assist.
Elma-Logan’s lone goal was
scored by Evan Tollenaar, assisted
by Jordan Long.
Two days later, Blyth was on the
road playing Zurich, in a game that
ended in a 4-4 draw.
Justin Rodgers was in goal for
Blyth in this contest.
Bromley scored two goals for
Blyth, Chad Treble added one goal
and one assist and Hunter added
another goal as well as an assist as
he took his turn on the ice. Marshall
also contributed an assist to the
effort.
Zurich matched Blyth’s four goals
thanks to Jake Earle, Nathan King
and Mitch Finlay who had a goal
and an assist each as well as and
Travis Cressman who scored one
goal.
Jarett Oke and Devon Steckle both
added assists to the effort and Will
Overholt was in net for Zurich
keeping a late-striking Blyth team to
only a tie.
Novice Reps down Elma Logan
It’s been a mixed bag so far thisseason for the Blyth PeeWee Reps,with just a few more wins than lossesposted. The most recent reported game wasagainst Brussels away on Dec. 28. The hosts struck first with Steve
Ellis putting his team on the
scoreboard in the first period. Connor
Prescott picked up the assist.
While the hosts couldn’t get one
past Blyth goalie Kennan Macdonald
before the first buzzer, they owned the
second period scoring three. Shea
McLean got two, one unassisted,
while Adam Cousins scored one.Cody Richmond and Ethan Nicholpicked up assists. Ellis also scored an unassistedeffort in the period to keep the gameclose. However, Brussels shut thedoor on any more goals, while adding
two more to their tally in the third.
McLean got his hattrick with another
unassisted goal. Then Nichol set up
the play for Connor Jarred to score the
last goal.
The final result was a 5-2 victory
for Brussels.
Five days earlier the Blyth squad
posted a 3-1 victory over Milverton.Alec Lorentz was between the pipesfor this contest. Ellis scored all three Blyth goalswith Nick Brandon picking up anassist.Dec. 16 the team travelled to
Monkton to play Elma Logan. The
hosts shut the door and sent their
visitors home down 7-0.
It was a home game Dec. 6 which
ended in a 2-2 tie. Scoring for the
Blyth squad were Brandon and
Jonathon Atkinson. Assists went to
Connor Prescott and Ellis.
Dec 2 the team hosted Normanby
and edged their visitors 4-3. Atkinson
and Ellis each scored two. Brandon
and Jamie Plaetzer were creditted
with assists.
Macdonald was goalie for this
match.
Nov. 27 was a game in Ayton
against the Normanby team. Blyth
took this one 5-2, with Lorentz
between the pipes.
A strong first period led the team to
victory. Prescott, with a pass from
Ellis, got things started mid-way into
the period. Then with just over a
minute left, Drew Wood lit the light.
Plunkett got the assist. As the seconds
ticked down, Wes Thompson handed
off to Ellis, who skated in to giveBlyth a 3-1 lead going into the secondperiod. After the break, Normanby pulledwithin one. Then with under fiveminutes remaining, Ellis, off a passfrom Ben Pletch sunk one to cancel it.
A third period goal by Plunkett, off
a pass from Pletch put the game away.
Nov. 20 was at home to Clifford.
Macdonald had a busy time in net, but
the squad eked out a 6-5 victory.
Scoring for Blyth were Atkinson,
Kevin Pennington with two,
Thompson, Plunkett and Brandon.
Assists went to Prescott with three,
Jamie Plaetzer, Wood and Jason
Meier.
Blyth travelled to Wingham Nov. 14
and defeated the hosts 4-3. Scoring
were Pletch, Plunkett, Brandon and
Jordon Button. Assisting were Nathan
Verburg, Meier, Prescott and Plunkett.
Alex Lorentz enjoyed the victory in
net.
It was a high-scoring match when
Wallace came to town Nov. 6.
Blyth goals were scored by Button,
Wood with two, Pennington with two,
Meier and Prescott. Assists went to
Prescott, Wood, Plunkett, Ellis and
Atkinson.
Nov. 4 was a home game with the
teams finishing in a 2-2 tie. Scoringwere Prescott and Button. Plunketthelped out on both goals. Oct 30 was a 7-4 loss at homeagainst Brussels. The visitors got on the board in thefirst when Brody TenPas set up the
play for Ryan Sholdice to score.
The team took a two-point lead in
the second when Brock McLean
handed off to Shea McLean to bulge
the twine. Blyth got on the board with
an unassisted effort from Plunkett, but
this was cancelled a minute later by
Shea McLean’s second goal of the
game. The assist went to TenPas.
Seconds later, Kody Richmond
handed off to Adam Cousins who
scored again for Brussels.
As the seconds ticked down to the
buzzer, Blyth closed the gap when
Thompson skated in unassisted to
score.
Brussels added three in the third
before Blyth could come up with any
more. These were off the sticks of
Shea McLean, Cousins and TenPas.
Picking up assists were Shep Machan,
TenPas and Shea McLean.
Blyth got two more in the final
minutes from Button, with assistance
from Wood, who then turned around
an got one all on his own.
Season brings mixed results for Blyth PeeWees
Unbeatable
Brussels was perfect in net Jan. 10, with Mitchell being
unable to beat Brussels for one goal. The Brussels Bantam

Hits N Misses miss a win
The Lost Sheep took on Hits N Misses in first round broomball action at last week’s Blyth

Stainton Midget Reps on a roll
The Saugeen Maitland Lightning
PeeWee A team won the 13th annual
Cambridge tournament this
weekend.
In round-robin play the girls had
wins against Leaside (1-0) and
Brantford (3-0) and a loss to
Cambridge (2-1).
In the final game the Lightning
squad redeemed themselves against
Cambridge coming away with a 2-1
overtime victory to capture the gold
medal.
Lightning goals went to Laura
Irwin with three and singles to
Hannah Davidson, Dollee Meigs,
Mackenna Shlakat and Abbey
Gibson. Assists went to Abbey
Gibson with two and singles to
Hannah Davidson, Shelsie Popp,
Caroline McDowell, Marcie
Landman, Jayleen Kirkland and
Laura MacKenzie.
Kortney Watson had both shutouts
and allowed only three goals-against
over the four games.
The Lightning resumes league play
on Jan 21 in Howick with two games
against Bluewater. Game times are
11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.
PeeWees claim tourney gold
