Marks reached the milestone on
Jan. 9.
Marks was born Jan. 9, 1907 at his
home farm in Morris Twp. Marks
was the pride and joy of Wilson and
Martha Marks.
Marks went on to marry Clara
Willoughby and together they had
four children, Shirley, Agnes, Helen
and Bob.
Marks celebrated his centennial
with friends and family at the
Belgrave Institute Hall with guests
coming from as far as Oakville, his
nieces and nephew, to celebrate the
milestone.

There were still families
celebrating Christmas on Dec. 30 and
31. The Gerald Watson family
gathered on Saturday and Sunday.
Gerry and Anne Ryan’s family also
gathered for their family Christmas
on Saturday.
Gary and Kelly McNichol
celebrated Christmas on Friday with
their family. Home for Christmas was
Mark McNichol from Alberta. He
stayed around for a couple of weeks
to enjoy New Year’s with Ontario
friends and is now back to the west
and home.
Neil and Marie McGavin held their
family Christmas on this weekend as
well. Daughter Heather and husband
Bryan and family made the trip back
to Walton from their new home in
North Bay.
Having a very different celebration
for their 46th wedding anniversary
was Howard and Audrey Hackwell.
They spent the evening with 73
Sunday night dance friends and
acquaintances at the Brussels Legion.
They did their usual jobs, then took
the opportunity to have a few dances
and brought in the New Year with
some Legion friends downstairs.
Happy anniversary to the both of
them and happy birthday to Audrey
as well.
Back to the Walton area for
Christmas holidays were Alex and
Gail Glanville. They stayed at Orvilleand Lila Storey’s and spent lots oftime visiting with the many Storeyand Glanville relatives. The Glanvilleboys enjoyed breakfast and bondingbefore Alex left and I’m sure theStorey girls did their share of get-togethers as well.Alex and Gail returned to Melford,Saskatchewan before New Year’s.Returning from a trip to Mexico
were Rick and Margaret McInroy. A
good time was reported and good
weather.
Jeff, Shannon, Jacob Mackenzie
and Teagan McGavin received a
special Christmas gift from Santa.
Christmas morning found a letter
under the tree from Santa telling
them about a trip to Disneyland. A
while later the phone rang and it was
Mickey Mouse wanting to talk to
Teagan and hoping to see her soon at
Disneyland.
They packed their bags and Boxing
Day morning they were off and drove
as far as South Carolina the first day,
then on to Disneyland, Florida the
next. They stayed at Disneyland and
took in Animal Kingdom, the Epcot
Centre, Magic Kingdom and MGM
Universal Studies.
Unfortunately, the two young girls
were under the weather with the flu a
couple of days and Shannon took it
just before leaving. Jeff drove straight
home in 19 hours with rest stops to
get home early Saturday morning.
They still had a good trip with good
weather, although a couple days of
light rain. A trip the kids will never
forget, I’m sure.
Off for the weekend to Syracuse,
New York for a broomball
tournament was the Sniper Team.
Walton’s Matt Shortreed, along with
Julie Moffat, Rob Warwick and
Aaron Bakker were among those who
went. No scores to report but they didwell, had fun, but didn’t win thetournament.Mary Humphries is a patient inClinton hospital at this time. We wishher a speedy recovery.Hosting an after New Year’sgathering for friends were Neil andMarie McGavin. Anne and GerryRyan, Jack and Donna Knight,Clarence and Marie McCutcheon,

on Wednesday evening.

lunch to her many Brussels friends
including Mary Huether, Dona
Knight, Karen Cardiff, Betty
Campbell, Mary Bone, Jane Hall,
Doris Fischer, Bev Palmer, Isabel
Wheeler, Laura Barbour, Anna
Cunningham and Leona McDonald.
They played cards and enjoyed a tour
of Margery’s home and a lovely
afternoon together.
Spending the weekend in Toronto
at the International Motorcycle Show
at the International Centre were Chris
and Brett Lee. They were there to
promote Transcan 2007 and to launch
and promote a new MX Stars-of-
Tomorrow program.
Amateur racers from across the
country including Ontario, New
Brunswick and New York attended a
marketing workshop by Chris to
learn how to promote themselves in
the racing world.
Chris also held the official release
of the DVD - All The Marbles which
is from the 2006 Transcan. Anyone
interested in the DVD can go to the
Walton Transcan website for

Goderich and ended in a 5-3 loss for
Brussels.
The locals took the lead early
when Zwep passed to Smith to
score. Hastings went in on a
breakaway to give his team a point.
Smith, got the final Brussels goal,
taking a shot that found its mark.
Baxter picked up the assist.
Penalties hurt the team as
Goderich picked up a few short-
handed goals to take the victory.
The Brussels Atom Reps posted
another point in the win column
when they travelled to Listowel in
recent hockey league action.
Brock McLean got his team on the
scoreboard with an assist from Lexi
Smith. Then Brody TenPas set up
the play for Jordyn Sholdice to
score. The third goal came off the
stick of Mitchell Kellington. Colton
Hastings picked up the assist on this
one. The final goal for Brussels in
this 4-2 effort was by TenPas with
Reece McArter getting the assist.
Matt McNichol played a great
game in net.
The team next faced off against
Zurich away and glided to a 9-3
victory. Kellington and McLean led
the onslaught with a hattrick apiece,
while TenPas tallied two and
Hayden TenPas scored a single.
It was a different story when the
squad hosted Milverton and came
up short by a score of 7-3. B. TenPas
and McLean scored the Brussels
goals.
To bring in the new year, Brussels
played Wingham. McLean started
the scoring with an assist from
Smith. Wingham came back to tie it,
but Sholdice broke it with her first
goal of the season. Kellington
assisted.
McLean, with help from H.
TenPas popped in another. B.
TenPas followed shortly after to
increase the Brussels tally. Tanner
Cardiff assisted.
Wingham put two quick ones past
McNichol, but Kellington bulged
the twine one more time for
Brussels before the game ended.
Tykes still undefeated
The Blyth Tyke I team blasted
through Christmas holidays still
undefeated.
Brussels came to town and played
a strong game but Blyth had the
upper edge.
With players away on holidays,
Sammy Kerr took on the job of
netminder and played a strong
game. Damon Allen moved back to
defence for a strong showing and
pre-tyke Colin Howson skated in his
second game in weeks digging
aggressively in the corners. Blyth
ended the game with a 6-4 victory.
Goal scorers were Chad Treble
with three, Brendan Howson with
two and Cody Treble with one.
Assists went to Morgan Howson,
Brendan Howson, Colin Howson
and Cody Treble.
First-year players Parker Gibbings
and Brock Weber played a strong
game on forward. Once again
Blyth’s defence played very well
guarding the line and backchecking.
