The Goderich Co-op Gallery is
featuring the potter Paula Letheren
during the month of January.
Pottery was not Paula’s first love.
She jumped into the world of
graphic design at an early age and
worked for Lewiscraft as an in-
house designer. It was in the late 70s
that her pottery days began in
Toronto at Spiral Pottery, where she
studied with Mary Lazier and Sheila
Clennell.
In the early 90s Letheren and her
husband moved to Bayfield and she
took a position teaching art at the
Bluewater Centre and later at
Goderich District Collegiate
Institute. She is currently a graphic
contributor to the environmental
group, Friends of the Bayfield River,
designing the cartoon character,
Lord Bannockburn, as their official
mascot.
The Goderich Little Theatre, as
well, has called on Letheren’s talents
for set design and poster creation in
the past.
Her commissions for watercolours
and pottery grace many homes and
offices in Huron County and abroad.
In 2004-2005 she conducted youth
art classes at Elizabeth’s Gallery.
Her studio in Bayfield is home to
both adult and youth art classes. The
Village Bookshop in Bayfield
displayed her watercolour paintings
and cards of Bayfield homes and
cottages this summer.
Her Goderich Co-op Gallery
collection includes her pottery,
watercolours of Exmoor National
Park in Somerset, England and
other mixed media. The January
member wall features Paula’s latest
work, colourful mosaic collages
entitled The Pieces Fit.
The Co-op’s winter hours are 10
a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday to Saturday
inclusive. A working artist is always
on duty. Call 519-440-0523 for more
information.
