Christine Zettler of RR3,Teeswater has been awarded the2006 CKNX Radio Farm AdvisoryBoard $1,000 FAB Bursary. Zettler’s in the second year of theBachelor of Science Agricultureprogram at the University of Guelph. Advisory Board members were impressed with her involvement in agriculture and in her community. She’s completed 42 4-H clubs, is the past Ambassador for the Teeswater- Culross Rural Fair and was involved in the planning committee for the 2005-06 4-H Ontario conference and annual meeting. Zettler’s also been involved in the community through her church, curling club and – while at the University of Guelph – has beeninvolved in the University’sOperation Christmas Child.The Teeswater-area student saysher future career possibilitiesinclude animal virus research andagricultural communications as well as the potential to remain involved in her family’s farming operation. The CKNX Radio farm advisory board administers the FAB Bursary. The Board includes representation from across Midwestern Ontario and from across the agriculture and agribusiness spectrum. It administers both the FAB Bursary program and the annual FAB Award program. Nominations for the FAB Award are now open, with a Happy New Year everyone. My wish for everyone is a healthy and prosperous 2007. Happy birthday to Deb Hakkers, Mike Haggitt of Blyth and Jenna deCorte of Kippen area who will celebrate their birthdays on Jan. 4. Deb, Fred, Jon and Quinton Hakkers hosted a Christmas dinner for the Craig and Daer families on Dec. 24. Special guest was Helen Stonehouse of Wingham. Others attending were Doug, Joyce, Heidi and friend Craig Henry and Jamie Craig of Atwood, Don, Marilyn and Dave Craig of Blyth and Nancy and Ed Daer of Wingham. Tricia Daer was in Barrie to help look after Josh as Terry and Julie Daer were spending a few days in hospital when Alexis was hospitalized with the flu. She returned home for her first Christmas on Dec. 24 and is doing well. Nancy and Ed Daer moved to their new home in Turnberry Estates on Dec. 28. Blyth United Church has said goodbye to Rev. Robin McGauley and Mark LeBel with a potluck lunch after church. Robin has accepted a position at Five Oaks College in Paris, Ontario. BLYTH UNITED CHURCH Greeting at Blyth United Church on Sunday, Dec. 24 were Enid MacDonald and Randy Fraser. Guest pianist was Lyn Fischer. Ushering were Rob Mason, Brenda Brooks. The choir led the singing of the processional hymn Once in Royal David’s City. The service was composed of scripture readings of the first Christmas, the singing of Christmas hymns and the lighting of the Advent wreath by the different families. The choir anthem was Songs at the Stable. The Christmas Eve service was held at 9 p.m. on Dec. 24. The sanctuary was lit by candles. Tom Dunbar welcomed everyone to church. Amanda Swartzentruber was pianist. Rev. McGauley lit the Advent wreath candles and the Christ candle. The first hymn was Angels from the Realms of Glory. The choir anthem was When a Child is Born. Rev. McGauley’s message was the story of Travelling from Bethlehem. The scripture reading was from Luke 2: 1-20. A moment of silent meditation followed. The offering was taken up during the singing of the hymn It Came Upon a Midnight Clear. The Great Prayer of Thanksgiving was followed by communion. The last hymn was Silent Night followed by the Blessing. Seaforth came to Blyth last Saturday to take on the Blyth Midget girls Black Ice broomball team. The girls gave the fans non-stop action. Black Ice scored first with Aislinn Bremner and Karly Howard getting the ball to Katelyn Roetcisoender to put it away for the goal. Seaforth came right back though. Black Ice goalie Chantal Warwick stopped an initial shot from Seaforth offense, but got the next one past her. Seaforth followed quickly with another goal. Black Ice came right back with a goal by Marcedes Pavao with assists from Roetcisoender and Cassie Salverda, and a breakaway goal by Howard. Seaforth tied it up again, but Larissa Jenkins scored from the faceoff circle to win it for Black Ice. Student wins bursary BBLLYYTTHH PPRRIINNTTIINNGG IINNCC..
