2007! 2007! It’s one of those – I
can’t believe it’s here already or
where did 2006 really go or it seems
like only last year we were getting
all excited about the new
millennium?
Anyway Happy New Year to you
and yours and may it be as happy
and exciting as you can stand.
This is the week that the old
calendars get the toss, but it’s also
the time to really look at where you
spent your time away from home last
year. In this house the calendar by
the back door is the one that remindsyou where you need to be today. It isthe one calendar that can be trustedto have all your important stuffnoted. So before 2006 hits the recycle bintake a few minutes and look over themonths. As you remember the dates, the appointments, the payments, theconcerts, and of course work, thinkabout all the people involved in your
life.
This is sure to get you thinking
and hopefully thinking of the many
blessings in your life. Even the
months that didn’t go so well, each
month involved people who just by
their presence made your life better.
So as you review the year just over,
enjoy the memories and get ready to
make this year even better.
The circle of life runs on its own
schedule, with no accounting for our
views of when life should begin and
of course end. Grace Smith will be
missed in the village and in the Ethel
community and we think of Harryand the rest of the clan as life goeson without her.The Bray family said goodbye toKent just before Christmas makingtheir days sad, but also very good asthey thought of all the joy he broughtinto their lives. Everyone holds theirown special thoughts of the lifecycleand depending on the role of theperson who died, the pain and the
memories take their own hold.
So be aware of the sadness in the
lives of others as we start this new
year and be one of the people they
are glad to see.
Families gathered in many places
at many times over the Advent and
Christmas season. Folks from
Brussels travelled to Alberta, British
Columbia and Alaska to be near the
ones they love. While all over
Ontario and Great Village, Nova
Scotia came here to be with family.
No matter the time or the place the
joy was there. Laughter and food,
fun and sharing are the commonelements no matter if the family istwo or 42.The celebration of the birth of thatbaby Jesus over 2,000 years ago isreason for all the gatherings. As weshare time and space weacknowledge the connection, thelove shared and the promise offamily and all that entails. The 12days of Christmas are now rushing
along so be sure to celebrate each
one, as you see fit. It’s a very nice
way to gently wind down from the
commercial blast of the season. No
one I know really is looking for a
partridge, drummers, or even geese-
lucky me.
I’m hoping you got to the
community centre on New Year’s
Day to celebrate and support the
upcoming summer party. Nothing
like a little fun and laughter to start a
brand new year. Happy New Year to
you!
Clowning around
Face painting was only the beginning of the festivities at the kick-off to the Brussels
Homecoming. There were plenty of activities on hand for residents of all ages in order to raise
awareness of the celebration to take place in July. (Vicky Bremner photo)

The Brussels Legion’s general
meeting scheduled for Dec. 19 had
only six in attendance, so the
business will be dealt with in
January.
Service officer Mabel Glanville
reported that the Provincial Service
Officer Randy Groundwater will be
in the area on Feb. 3. Appointments
need to be made by Jan. 11 with
Mabel if there are any veterans
needing a meeting with him.
The Friday night Christmas
potluck had only a dozen or so enjoy
the delicious variety of dishes. The
gift exchange saw some pretty
funny, interesting, useful and really
nice things exchanged. Thanks to
Santa Lisa for organizing it.
Celebrating Christmas at the
Branch on Christmas Day was the
Bremner family. They enjoyed a
great day, great meal and lots of
room for everyone.
Get-well wishes go out to
Comrade Barb Dunbar who has
suffered a fractured wrist. We hope
she manages and heals quickly.
Comrade Ross Proctor is still a
patient in Wingham Hospital and we
hope he is improving.
Zone euchre is Jan. 20 so if you
are interested get in and sign up.
Team darts are in early February at
our own Branch for those interested.
