At the United Church on Sunday
morning Rev. J. A. Burden spoke from
Galatians 4th chapter, verse 4, "But
when the fulness of the time was come:
God sent forth His son" the first of
four sermons in the series "Along the
Bethlehem Road". The choir sang an
anthem, "Gentle Mary laid her child",
the author was the late Dr. Joseph
Cook a former 13luevale pastor. Mrs.
Earl Hamilton's Sunday School Class
recited the ten commandments in uni-
son.
Rev. Leland C. Jorgensen preached
at Knox Presbyterian Church from
Acts, Chapter 26, verse 26. "For this
thing was not done in a corner". The
choir sang " He is able,.
The sacrament of the Lord's Supper
will he observed next Sunday morning
with Preparatory service being held
the preceding Friday evening,
At the Y.P.U. meeting, itt the United
Church on Friday night, Fleming
Johnston had charge of the topic,
"Christian Cidture

Following a short
address by Rev. 1,A. Burden, two re-
cently married couples, Mr. and Mrs.
Melvyn Jermyn and Mr. and Mrs.
Clark Thynne were presented with
purses. Afterwards games were played,
refreshments served and a social time
enjoyed.
Entertained Classes
The teachers and officers of Knox
Presbyterian Sunday School entertain-
ed their classes in the school room on
Friday evening. R. J. McMurray acted
as chairman for a short program of
carol singing, readings, recitations and
songs. Awards were presented to Bruce
Robertson for reciting the catechism,
and to Ian Mundell, for memorizing
scripture verses. Mrs. Harold Elliott
supervised games for the children and
J. C. Higgins conducted a quiz contest
for the adults. Mrs. Jorgensen was
pianist throughout the prOgrAill. Lunch
and candy was served.

training at Victoria Hospital, London,
spent Saturday with her mother, Mrs.
W. H. McKinney and sister, Elizabeth.

Miss Olive Jefferson, R.N. of Strat-
ford, spent the week-end at the Jeffer-
son home,
Mrs. J. C. Robinson is spending a
few days this week in Wingham, with
her son, Gordon and Mrs. Robinson.
Mrs. Jack Tiffin of Wingham, was
a week-end guest with her parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Norman Thompson.
,Mrs. Wm. Thompson is visiting at
the home of her daughter,, Mrs. Mark
Armstrong.
Mr, and Mrs. Edward Robinson
were Sunday visitors with her parents,
program. Several Christmas Carols Mr, and Mrs. Gershom Johnston.
After a long , searching cross-exam-
ination, the little woman in the wit-
ness-box remained quite calm. At last
the lawyer exclaimed:
"You say you had no education, but
you answered all my questions smartly
enough."
"Yes, sir," replied the witness meek-
ly; "but you don't have to be a scholar
to answer silly questions."
Mrs. Will Taylor who has spent the
last few weeks at the home of Mr. and
Mrs, Will McVittie returned to St.
Helens last week,
The Christmas meeting of the West-
field W.M.S. was held in the basement
of the church on Wednesday, Decem-
ber 3rd, with a good attendance. At
this meeting a special invitation was
extended to the men to attend. The
ladies were pleased that several accept-
ed the invitation.
Mrs. Stanley Cook had charge of the
were sung with Winnie Campbell at
the piano. Mrs. Hugh Blair read the
Christmas Scripture lesson. Prayer by
Rev. Hewitt. Mrs, Rev. Hewitt sang
a Christmas solo and Mrs. McVittie,
Mrs. Fred J. Cook and Mrs. Stanley
Cook gave readings. Roll Call was
answered by each member giving a
Bible verse on Christmas. Mrs. Mc-
Vittie, the president, took charge of
the business. The minute's of last
meeting were read and adopted. Sev-
eral items of business was looked into,
after which the meeting was closed
with prayer. Lunch was served and a
social time was spent,
Miss Roberta McVittie spent over
Sunday with her parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Smith and fam-
ily, visited on Sunday with Mr. and
Mrs. Fred Boyce of l3rocefield.
Mr. Gordon McDowell and Mr.
Gramme McDowell spent over the
week-end with Mr. and Mrs, John Gear
of Kitchener.
