LAE VOTE OUT FOR
MONDAY ELECTIONS
Two New Councillors- Elected For
Next Year
The electors for the Town of Wing-
barn turned out in large pumbere. on
Monday to choose thefie1948 Council,
Mayor Kennedy and Reeve Johnson
laving received acclamation. During
the pastemonth the 1947 council came
in for considerable criticism, and
whether the criticism was justified only
time will tell. Credit goes to the two
'Councillors who tooksthe rap on Mon-
dlay for being two of the hard-
est workers on the Council in many
years, and when they set out to do a
thing, they did it, although their ef-
forts did not seem to meet with the
:approval of the electors,
This year's voting, we understand,
was marked by many plumpers being
given by electors to their favorite can-
.didate. The following is the vote by

WINGHAM HOSPITAL
IS NOW DEBT FREE
. Next Objective -s-• Nursee Home
On October 3rd,, 1946, the lion,
Rtissell T. Kelley, Minister of Health
for Ontario officially opened our fine
new Hospital Building. At that time
there was still $13,000,00 needed to pay
off the balance' of the Building Fund
Debt.
By action of the Hospital Board the
citizens Finance Committee was asked
to undertake a thorough campaign to
build up a strong Hospital Association,
membership fees being set at $5.00 for
one year, $25.00 for 6 years, $50,00 for
12 years and $100.00 for Life Member-
ship. The committee has as its goal at
least one member per family and at
least 100 Life members. Life members
automatically become members, also,
of the Hospital Century Club, which
has for its duties the promotion of the
Welfare of the Hospital throughout
the entire Hospital Service Area and
the maintaining of its membership to a
minimum of one hundred. The results
were so successful that returns from
Association Memberships enlarged by
other subscriptions have made it pos-
sible to_completely liquidate the Build-
ing Fund Debt.
Since the opening of this year's
membership drive, two weeks ago,
seven new Life members have been ad-
ded to make the total 92, just 8 less
than the minimum, originally set. The
Committee is confident that the goal
of one hundred Life members will soon
be passed.
A gratifying response to the 1946-47
campaign was the number of former
residents of Wingham and district who
mailed in money for Life Memberships.
The names Have appeared in this pap-
er on more than one occasion. It is a
source of inspiration and encourage-
ment to our present citizens to be re-
minded that our town and district holds
a place of affection in the hearts of
those whose interests have taken them
elsewhere.

ANNUAL MEETING
OF HURON CROP
IMPROVEMENT ASSN,
we have some taipies boarding out and
some are inadequately housed ott the
third floor of the old Hospital Build-
ing. While we are ultra modern in our
new Hospital Building and its varied
faellities, Wingharn lags far behind in
its accomodation for nurses and this
condition must be remedied With the
least possible delay. Rooms now ac-
copied as Nurse's living quarters are
needed for convalescent patients and
provision of an adequate nurses' home
will releasel2 extra beds for this pur-
pose, further, if Wingham is to have
a successful Nurses' Traitting School,
and that definitely is our plan, we must
have adequate aceoreodetion lit living
quarters and recreation facilities.
It is for these reasons that a strong
Association is necessary. Membership
fees, Subscriptions to "For Service" or
"In Memory" plaques, funds from Ate-
questa or other gifts are the only ratans
the Hospital Iloard has, of obtaining
the EXTRA. money needed for im-
provement hi plant and equipment.
The hospital is publicly owned. The
Board of Directors is made up partly
of appointers by local municipal bod-
ies and partly by Directors elected to
the Board from "Memberships in the
Association all of whom serve without
reinurietation. These ram of necessity
give much time and energy to their
work. The least we can do is give
the our support. One a the elements m
of Christianity is that the sick be eared
