Ashton on Thursday. The 1st vice-
president, Mrs. E. E. Wellington pre-
sided and meeting was opened with
singing of the hymn, '"0 Come All Ye
Faithful", followed by the Lord's
Prayer in unison. The Bible reading
was taken by Mrs. Wellington. "Hark
the Herald Angels Sing" was the sec-
ond hymn followed by prayer by Mrs.
G. G. Howse. The work of the after-
noon was quilting a quilt for the bale
to be sent to Britain, Mrs. F. Hynd-
man offered her home for the Decem-
ber meeting. The Mizpah benediction
was repeated and lunch was served by
the committee, ;Mrs. A. Thornton and
Mrs. T. L, !McInnes, assisted by the
hostess.
Mr. and Mrs. Wm, Bolton (nee Flor-
ence Anger) were honored on Friday
evening when friends and neighbours
gathered at the home of Florence's
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Geo, Anger.
Douglas Whitfield drew a gaily decora-
ted wagon load of gifts while Dorothy
Watson made the presentation and
Doreen Harrison read an address,
Dancing was enjoyed to „the music .of

Lunch was served,
Mr. and Mrs, Jas. E. Hudson of
Gorrie were entertained at a miscellan-
eous shower on Friday night in Han-
over,

Miss Mary Isabel Steuart and Mr.
Jas. Emerson Hudson were quietly
married on Saturday, November 16, by
Rev. Mr. Hutton of Molesworth.
Andrew Emmerson
There passed away on Monday
morning, November 17, at the home of
his daughter, Mrs. Elmer Downey, a
respected resident of Gorrie in the per-
son of Andrew Emmerson in his 81st
year. Although in failing health for
the past two years from a heart con-
dition he was confined to bed for only
a few days. Be was born hi the town-
ship of East Zona near Woodstock,
and had fanned at Wiarton, at Kilsyth
for V years and in Mint° township,

made his home with his daughterl
Mary, Mrs. E, Downey of Gorria.
He was married in Waterloo County
in 1889 to Mary Aim Fulliek, who pre-
deceased him November 13th, 1030.
To them were born seven, children,
four of whom have paSSed On. He was
also the lait of his own family.
Surviving are one son, Allan Ent-
merson of Owen Sound, two daughters,
Mrs. Stanley Knapp of Detroit and
Mrs. E. Downey, Gorrie, thirteen
grandchildren and three great grand-
children.
'The funeral service was held tut
'Wednesday afternoon from M. IX Ir-
vit'S Funeral Home and was tondutt-
ed by Rev. G. G. Howse of the United
-Church. Interment was in Fordwieli ,
cemetery.
Pall bearers were: Sara iMtinford.
Louis Htirilmrt, Ben Fallis, Mirth);
Herb Neill, Jas. Shera and Albert Hei-
bein, ,Gorrie.
Plower bearers Were four grand dau-
ghters, Lois Stucky, Detroit; Dorothy,

George, Everett, Ray, Roy, Edith
and Irene Pennington, of TeesWater,
spent Sunday with their grandmother,
Mrs. Frances Strong.
Harness Shop Damaged
On Friday evening at 6.30. p.m.,
Archie Irwin's Harness Shop was bad-
ly damaged by an explosion from some
unknown cause. Damage from fire was
slight but practically every window
was broken and the wall daMaged.
Wingham Fire Dept. was called but
had to return to respond to a call in
Wingham, so. Harriston Fire'Dept..was
called. Many volunteer helpers gather-
ed.
Mrs. Cecil Day underwent a major
operation in Wingham hospital on
Thursday and is getting along as well
as can be expected.
Mr. and Mrs: Lloyd Jacques and,
children, eon, 13, were Sunday visitors
with Mr, George Dane and Miss Mar-
garet.

bother, Mr, Gordon Edgar convalescing
after a recent illness.

ily spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs.
Chas. Kitchen.
Mr. Jas. Wylie of Toronto, spent
Sunday with his mother, Mrs. J. Wylie.
The young people's union will meet
at the home of David Neilson on Fri-
day evening. Mac Hutchison and
Millie Parrish wilt.be in charge of the
social and recreation program.
The many friends of Mrs. Jos, Ben-
nett will be glad to learn that she was
able to return to her home on Friday
evening after a recent operation in the
General Hospital, Toronto. She spent
some time with her sister, Mrs. L.
Duburgess.
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hyndman spent
Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. John Gowdy
at Wroxeter.

A Crokinole party was held in the
basement of the Westfield United
Church on Saturday evening in honor
of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Cook and
Mr. ,and Mrs, Norman Radford and
Miss Shirley Radford of Blyth, who
were residents of the community and
have gone to reside in Blyth, Mr. Al-
bert Walsh NV a s in charge of the games.
Seven•games were played, Mrs, Walter
Cook being the lady winner and Rev.
A, G. Hewitt, the gent's. The honour-
ed guests were asked to come forward,
when Jr, Jack Buchanan gave the ad-
dress and Mrs, Wm, Walden and Mrs,
Albert Walsh presented a Pullman
Type blanket to each of the families.
Mr. Radford and Mn Cook made suit-
able replies, thanking their friends for
their gift and good wishes, after which
"For they are Jolly Gond Fellows",
was sung. The ladies served lunch at
which a social time was spent which
was enjoyed by all present. The Nat- I
ional Anthem was sung.
