dia, Hindus and Moslems, seem more
friendly than ever toward the Christ-
ians. More workers are needed as
there are yet only 8,000,000. Christians
in a population of 400,000,000. Miss
Stringer spoke of the desire on the
part of the people of India to purchase
Bibles being so great that it was im-
possible to supply the demand. She
closed her address with the parting
message given her by one of the Indian
Christian workers, "Tell the Church
at home that the Church in India can
and will carry on as long as the
Church at home remembers to pray:"
A solo, "Over There, was beautifully
rendered by Miss Marion MacDonald,
L ucknow,
The Very Rev. C. H. MacDonald
brought greetings from the General
Assembly to the meeting, He spoke of
the unusually large number of young
people of the Presbyterian Church
who are volunteering for Mission work,
and of the need for more workers.
"What the Church needs today" lie
stated, "is more consecrated homes.
For out of consecrated homes conies
the ministers for our Church.
Miss Williamson spoke on the con-
dition of India today. She also stress-
ed the open door in India for mission
work. In speaking of the attitude of
the two warring factions towards the
Christian, she told how at the time of
rioting in out city the Christians paint-
ed crosses on their homes and so saved
themselves from harm,
Miss Williamson stated that Chris-
tianity is the only hope, for India to-
day, and she also closed her address
with a plea for the prayers of the
Christians at home for this war-torn
conntty.
At the close of the addresses, Mrs.
Mack, Kincardiee, led in prayer for

RED SHIELD DRIVE
"Illegitimacy in Canada continues to
be a vital problem for Social agencies,"
says Licit-Colonel Hilda Aldridge,
head of The Salvation Army's Woin-
en's Social Service Work.
Cornmenting,,,upon current controver-
sial reports on the subject Colonel Ald-
ridge said that •accurate information is
almost impossible to get.
The number of married women who
are mothers to children by other time
their husbands adds to the confusion.
Such womett, registering in hospitals
under their married name, lessen than-
ces of learning the infant's true patent-
ity. The Colonel , strongly deplored
such moral laxity and was afraid there
was "sonic" increase in this type of
births.
In all, 15,864 infants were born last
year in The Army's 31 Women's Hom-
es and Hospitals, the Colonel states.
Girls cared for in Receiving and Ma-
ternity Homes numbered 2,789 with
1,600 infants born to unmarried moth-,
eta, In live Sunset Lodges for aged
women 324 perSOIA were accommodat-
ed.
1946 was a record year in Salvation
Army Nurses't Training Schools, Col-
onel Aldridge said. Even so, nursing
staffs in Army Hospitals are still be-
low strength in view of increasing de-
mands. -
Hospital extensions are proceeding
a $270,000 four storey addition to Win-
nipeg Grace Hospital being the latest
opening.
Help the local organization reach its
objective of $2400.00.
