Mrs. R. J. Ross who spent the past
eight months in Westminster Hospital,
London, following serious leg and hip
operations, was able to commence his
work last week in the C.P.R, yards in
London.

with a bad attack of the flu,

Miss Erland Gregg had the honour
of receiving a free trip to the Toronto
Exhibition last week for her high
standing at the Junior Homemaking
Club Achievement Day at Clinton, She
was accompanied by Miss Wilda Brec-
kenridge of Bluevale, the only other
girl in Huron County to receive this
honor, also by Miss Flora M. Durnin,
Home Economist of Dungannon. Both
girls received 80% in their judging at
the Exhibition. They also attended the
Women's Institute Convention in
Guelph, Thursday and Friday where
Erland spoke on "My Experiences in .
Gardening. Erland has completed 6

Women's Institute
The September meeting of Gorrie
Women's Institute was held at the
home of Mrs. Hartwell Strong on
Tuesday, Septemhot ,2nd:' The meet-
ing was opened in the usual manner
and business got underway with Mrs.
Mel, Taylor presiding, in the absence
of the President. The Roll Call was
"Helpful Hints in the Kitchen".
The Fall course for the girls will be
"The Milky .Way" and Mrs. Glen
Johnston was appointed leader, with
Erland Gregg as assistant. Arrange-
ments were made to attend the Area
Convention at Guelph. The Short
Course on Quilting and Quilt Making
will be held on November 6th and 7th,
and the course of Personality and
Dress will be in Gorrie on November
14th. Both of these courses will be of
great interest to all the ladies, so keep

refined from the beet but this is not
true, it is her own lack of precaution
in sterilizing, etc., as scientists cannot
distinguish between beet or cane sugar.

United Church W.M.S.,
The W.M:S. Thankoffering Service
was held in the Ill,nited Church School
Room on Thursday evening, Sept, 4th.
The Worship Service on the theme,
"Giving Thanks" was taken by Mrs,
E. Whitfield and Mrs, T. 'McInnis
with Mrs. Whitley at the piano.
Mrs. V. Shera introduced guests
from Moorefield, who were participat-
ing in the program. The guest speak-
er, Mrs, Metcalf gave an excellent ad-
dress on Christian Stewardship. Mrs.
Herbert and Mrs. Hammond accomp-
anied by Mrs, Groshaw sang two.
beautiful duets. Rev. G. Howse led in
prayer.
The president, Mrs. Rattan, presided
for -the business period after which
Mrs, Kaine conducted a musical con-
test. Lunch was served and all en-
joyed a social half hour.
Girl's Auxiliary
On Friday evening. September 5th,
the regular meeting of the Girl's Aux-
ilary was held at the home of Mrs,
Hartwell Strong. The meeting open-
ed with the singing of the hymn, "0
God Our Help in Ages Past", follow-
ed by a prayer by the President, Mrs..
Caley. The Lord's Prayer and the
Girl's Prayer were then repeated in
unison,
Mrs, Caley read the Scripture lesson
from Romans, Chapter 10, verses 8 to
15. The business of the evening was
then discussed when it• was decided to
hold the next meeting at the home of
Mrs. W. King, on October 10th, for a
quilting.
Mrs. F. C. Taylor gave a very inter-
esting talk taking "Salvation" as the
topic. Rev. Mr. Caley pronounced the
benediction after which lunch was ser-
ved by the hostess.
St. Stephens Anglican Church will
hold their Harvest -Thanksgiving Ser-
vice on Sunday, Sept. 21st., at 3 p.m.,
Rev. J. C. Caley will preach,
