Wingham Hospital on Thursday last
where she went through another oper-
ation on her broken leg,

Women's Institute will be held on
Tuesday next in the Memorial Hall.
Lucknow and St. Helens Institutes
have also been invited to attend this
Grandmothers' meeting. The roll call
will be answered by the reasons Grand-
mothers have for longevity. All are in-
vited to attend,

spent Sunday at the home of the for-
msparents, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon

Word was received here on Sunday
morning of the sudden passing of
Hugh Anderson (Andy) at his home at
Kenmore, N.Y. Besides his wife ;the
former Millie* MacGregor of Kinloss,
he leaves to mourn him, a son, Jimmie,
in the Navy, and a daughter, Catharine
at home. Mr, and Mrs. Thos. Moore
and Mrs. Jack Henderson of Lucknow•
left' on Monday for Kenmore e to b
with their sister. The many friends of
the family in this community extend
sympathy to the bereaved families.

Ronald spent Sunday at the home of

Mr. Jas, Richardson was -able to re-
turn to his home in Rieloss on Thurs-
day last, after spending almost a
month in Wingham Hospital, Miss
Grace Richardson is also under the
doctor's care suffering from a bad at-
tack of flu. Miss Lizzie Richardson
of Teeswater spent the week-end there.
Mr, and Mrs. Clarence McClen-
aghan were at Kitchener on Saturday
attending the marriage of her niece,
Miss Margaret Powell of Vancouver,.
B. C., and Mr, John Guse of Kitchen-
er. The marriage was solemnized at
the home of the bride's aunt, Mr. and
Mrs. Goudie, with Mr, McClenaghart
giving the bride away.
Mr, Jas, St, Marie of St. Catharines
spent a few days last week with his
parents, Mr. and Mrs, Jas. St. 'Marie,
His little 'son, Tommy, returned home
with him after spending the holidays

pes. You should have heard the folks
rave about the aroma from our test
batches of relishes. The listed recipes
are those we have tested and are hap-
py to have on file. Pickles provide
zest to winter meals and those which
can accompany many foods are most
useful. We believe these are easy-to-
make and score on color, consistency
and flavor,
PEAR CHOW CHOW
8 pears, 3 onions, 3 sweet red
peppers, % cup sugar, 2' cups vine-
gar, 1/2 cup water, 2 tsps. salt, 2
tsps, whole spice.
Peel onions, remove seeds from pep-
pers, put both through food chopper,
using coarse knife. Peel and core
pears Cut in small cubes, Mix sugar,
spices, salt and vinegar. Heat to boil-
ing point. Add onions, peppers, pears
and spices tied in a cheesecloth bag.
Simmer 30 minutes on electric element
turned low, stirring occasionally, Re-
move spices. Pour into hot sterilized
jars. Seal, Yield: 4 pints.'

PICKLED PEACHES
8 lbs, ripe peaches, whole cloves,
Ye cup water, 2 cups cider vinegar,
2% cups sugar, 3 tbsps. stick cin-
namon, 1 tbsp. root ginger, 2
tbsps. of mixed pickling spice, %
lemon, thinly sliced.
Use large, firm peaches. Scald, skin
and cut them in halves; stick two or
three whole cloves in each half. Corn-
bine the vinegar, water, sugar, spices
(tied in a cheesecloth bag) and the
lemon slices; boil for 5 minutes. Sim-
mer the peaches in the syrup, one layer
at a time until tender; lift into sterile
jars; fill to overflowing with -the boil-
ing syrup and seal at once, Yield: ap-
proximately 4 pints.
