50th Anniversary Picnic-On Wed-
nesday afternoon of last week a happy
crowd of former teachers, pupils and
others gathered in Perdne's Grove to,
celebrate the 50th Anniversary, of S.S,
No. 9, East Wawanosh. The presi-
dent, Mr, Geo, Kerr, called the meet-
ing to order and gave an interesting
account of the school since its erection
in 1559 as a log school with John Pat-
terson wielding the hickory, the open-
ing of the present school in 1872 up to
the present- 50th Anniversary in 1922,
The following former students had
seats of honor on the platform: John

nosh; Jas. Linklater and Robt. Mc-

Take notice that
1. The Council of the Corporation of
the Town of Wingham intends to con-
struct as a local improvement Sanitary
Sewers on
Carling Terrace Victoria Street
to Diagonal Road
Catherine Street Victoria Street
to Diagonal Road
Diagonal Road Catherine Street
to Carling Terrace
and intends to specially assess a part
of the cost upon the land abutting di-
rectly on the work,
2. The estimated cost of the work is
$8100.00 of which $3240.00 is to be
paid by the Corporation, The estim-
ated cost per foot frontage is $L00.
The special assessment is to be paid
in ten equal annual instalments and the
'estimated annual rate per foot frontage
is eleven and seven-tenths (11 7110)
cents per foot frontage.
3. Application will be made by the
Corporation to the Ontario Municipal
Board for its approval of the' under-
taking of the said work and any owner
may within twenty-one days after the
first publication of this .notice file
with the Board his objection to the
Said work being undertaken,
4. The said Board may approve of
the said work being undertaken, but
before doing so it may appoint a time
and plate when any objections to the
said work will be considered.

FIFTEEN YEARS AGO
Found Petrified Turtle Shell-Eric
SchOte, son of Bandmaster Schatte,
while swimming near Henderson's in
the Maitland river, found a peculiar
looking stone. He brought it home,
and after it was cleaned and closely
examined it was found to be a petrified
turtle shell. This boy has a habit of
finding things. Just some short time
ago lie found, in the river, the revolver
which was stolen during the hold-up of
BLUEVALE
Mr, and Mrs. Jack Schultz and Ran-
dall of Kincardine, visited last `Sunday
with Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Thornton
and Julia.

FORTY YEARS AGO
Local Items-The removal of W.
Duncan, leader of the Citizens Band,
to Harrtston, necessitated the selection
IN of a new leader. The choice fell upon
Ur, Geo, Wrigley, who has l/eci a
member of the Band for some time,
The Band is a credit to Wingham, and
members are looking forward hope-
fully to further. progress under their
new leader, who is said to have a good
knowledge of music.
Trout Pond - Messrs. Siliiek and
Calhoun of Lower Wingham have con-
structed a trout pond, which they hope
will prove successful.
Darkey Hal Famous Horse-Darkey
Hal, owned by J. E. Swarts, is wak-
ing himself famous. At Utica recently
he won first place in the Free for all,
• and. at Readville on Thursday last, he
took third money in the Norfolk .2.08
pace, where the purse was $6,000.
Huron Rifle League - The Huron
Rifle League is fully organized and
will meet at Auburn on Tuesday, Sept.
10th, when the semi-annual match will
come off. Seven men from each of the
twelve associations have been chosen
instead of ten as formerly, and the
ranges will be 200 and 500 yards, seven
shots quick firing to the minute at 200
yards, There will be individual prizes
for each event, trio prizes, medal win-
ner for highest scorer in all events and
a silver cup trophy for the highest
scoring team. •
