Austin of 13elmore. * * * FIFTEEN YEARS AGO Found Petrified Turtle Shell-Eric SchOte, son of Bandmaster Schatte, while swimming near Henderson's in the Maitland river, found a peculiar looking stone. He brought it home, and after it was cleaned and closely examined it was found to be a petrified turtle shell. This boy has a habit of finding things. Just some short time ago lie found, in the river, the revolver which was stolen during the hold-up of BLUEVALE Mr, and Mrs. Jack Schultz and Ran- dall of Kincardine, visited last `Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Thornton and Julia. Duncan, leader of the Citizens Band, to Harrtston, necessitated the selection IN of a new leader. The choice fell upon Ur, Geo, Wrigley, who has l/eci a member of the Band for some time, The Band is a credit to Wingham, and members are looking forward hope- fully to further. progress under their new leader, who is said to have a good knowledge of music. Trout Pond - Messrs. Siliiek and Calhoun of Lower Wingham have con- structed a trout pond, which they hope will prove successful. Darkey Hal Famous Horse-Darkey Hal, owned by J. E. Swarts, is wak- ing himself famous. At Utica recently he won first place in the Free for all, • and. at Readville on Thursday last, he took third money in the Norfolk .2.08 pace, where the purse was $6,000. Huron Rifle League - The Huron Rifle League is fully organized and will meet at Auburn on Tuesday, Sept. 10th, when the semi-annual match will come off. Seven men from each of the twelve associations have been chosen instead of ten as formerly, and the ranges will be 200 and 500 yards, seven shots quick firing to the minute at 200 yards, There will be individual prizes for each event, trio prizes, medal win- ner for highest scorer in all events and a silver cup trophy for the highest scoring team. •
