Mrs, Pearson Coung and daughter,
Susan of Sebringville Called on their
friends in town on Wednesday. Mrs,

a teacher in the Junior. Room of the
Gorrie Public School some years ago.
Mr, and. Mrs, Jas. Graham, Betty
and, Alex, returned to their home in
Toronto on Wednesday after spending
a ten dars, vacation with the former's
father, Mr. Reht. Graham and Mrs.
Grahame, and other relatives,
Mrs. Etta Pylce who was taken ill
at her home last week is now at the
home of her daughter, Mrs. A, Fitch,
near Belmore, -
Miss Mary McDonald of Kincardine,
is visiting at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Geo. Dane -Jr.
Rev. Stanley R. Johnston of Tharn-
esford, was avisitor in town on Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Alex Taylor, Billie and
Ruby, visited- at the home of R. 13.
Allan, Kincardine, one day last week,
Mrs. Bernice Stimpson was a Lis-
towel visitor on Saturday.
Mrs. Laurel DuBurgess of Toronto,
is visiting her sister, Mrs. Joe Ben-
nett andMr. Bennett, Mrs, Bennett is
able to be around the house again
after her recent illness.
Mr, and Mrs. J. Ferric and family
of Grey Toargnahip, also Mrs. A. Perry
of Brussels. visited with Mr, and Mrs.
Alex Edgar sr., on Sunday.
Mrs. W, H.. Marshall was in Kitch-
ener on Sunday attending the funeral
of a cousin,
Miss Phyllis Little and Mr, William
Swan of Windsor, are guests of the
former's aunt, Mrs. T. Vittie and Mr.
Vittie,
Mr. Reg. Newton returned last week
from. Wingham Hospital.-,We Are sorry
to learn that he will be confined to bed
for some time,,as he is suffering from
a heart condition.- -
Misses Olga and Mary Elliott of
Vancouver, B.C., are visiting Miss B.
Stimpson. They made the trip by
motor.
Mrs., Geo. 'Galbraith who underwent
an operation for appendicitis in Clin-
ton Hospital on _August 1st., was able
to leave the hospital on Saturday, and

Mrs. Alice V. -clinkenbroomer
Mr, Wm. Corbett has received word
of the death of his sister, Alice V.
Corbett, wife of the late Harry Clink-
enbroomer, who passed away on July
25th., at her home in Evanston, Ill.,
in her 74th year, She was born in
Howick on the Gth eon, east of Ford-
wich. When quite young she went to
Toronto to live later moving to Evan-
ston, Ill. Two sons survive. A daugh-
ter predeceased her,

Frank Cole
On Saturday morning, kugttst 2nd.,
the death occurred at his tome of an-
other of Gorrie's oldest resident, in the
person of Mr. Frank Cole, in his 82nd
year, Although in failing health for the
past year he was confined to bed only
two weeks. He was born near Whitby,
the son of the late Mr. and Mrs, Isaac
Cole, He came to reside in Howick
Township in his youth and fifty-seven
years ago was married to Emma Grace
Ashton, daughter of the late Mr. and
Mrs, Wm. Ashton, who predeceased
him in January, 1945. A son, Nelson
died in his 15th year in 1906.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs,
Wardie (Gertie) Schaefer, Fordwich,
and Mrs. Frank (Cora) King, Howick,
eight grandchildren, a sister, Mrs.
Etta Day, who has resided with him
for the past twelve years, a' brother,
Mr. Geo. Cole of Two Creeks, Man.,
and another sister, Mrs. Robt. Day of
Stratford.
Mr. Cole was a member of the Un'-
ited 'Church. He had lived in Gorrie
for the past forty-seven years. Of a
cheerful and humorous nature he will
be missed by friends and neighbors.
The funeral service was held from
the M. D. Irvin Funeral Home on
Monday afternoon. Rev. Dr. J. W. Ma-
hood of Fordwich conducted the ser-
vice assisted by Rev. Mr. Hutton of
the Presbyterian Church, Mrs. Clar-
I ence Sparling sang "The Old Rugged
Cross". Interment was made in the
Gorrie Cemetery.
The pallbearers were Jas. Edwards,
Robt. Dane, Wm. Lynn, Jas. Douglas,
Robt, Harrison and Jas. Shera:
Floral tributes 'were carried by six
girls, Beverley AshfCin, Shirley Shera,
Betty Zimmerman, Shirley Ashton,
Margaret Brown and Elizabeth Pat-
terson.
Friends attending the funeral were
}from Toronto, Hamilton, Elora, Ar-
thur, Palmerston and Wingham.
Presbyterian Church
The service in the Presbytprian
Church' next Sunday, August 17th.,
will be held in the evening at 8 p.m.
Rev. H. A, Pritchard of Ormstown,
Quebec, will preach,

therston of Toronto are holidaying
with the former's parents, Mr. and
Mrs, Frank King. ,
Mr. and Mrs. Waiter Huggan of
Brussels, visited Mr. and Mrs. W. H.
Marshall on Wednesday.
The Farrish family have received
word of the death of their uncle, Mr.
Percy White of Holstein. The funeral
will be held on Tuesday. Mr. White is
a brother of Mrs. Elmer Parrish.

The 'funeral was conducted Sunday
from the First Memmonite Church at
2:30 p.m., Rev. Merle Shantz conduct-
ing the services. Burial was in the
First Mennonite Cemetery.
A teacher of American history asked
if anyone in her class could answer the
question: "What was The reason for the
Puritans corning tp this country?" The
best answer read: "They came to wor-
ship in their own way and to make the
other people do the same."
Ave.,, died atthe K-W Knollwood Park
Hospital. A native of Howick Town=
ship, he was born March 2, 1875, son
of the 1Me Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Ober-
h oltzer.
Deceased had been an employee of
the Barrie Grove and Knitting Co. for
40 years.
He was a member of the First Men-
nonite Church. One brother, David
S., Kitchener, survives him. He was
predeceased by two sisters, Mary and
Lydia, and one brother, Joseph.

Mr. arid Mrs. Jas. McGrath of Tor-
onto, visited friends here last week,
Mn'l, and Mrs. Carter, McKee of Galt,
spent several days last week visiting
the former's brother, Mr, Gco. McKee
and with other relatives.
Mrs. Harry Ferguson was in Ailsa
Craig last week attending the Robin-
son Reunion.
Mr, Edgar Shepherd of St, Catha-
rines, is spending some time with his
aunt, Miss Alice Edgar and his uncle,
Mr. Fred Edgar.
Mr, and Mrs. Wm, Edwards, Lon-
don, Mr. and Mrs. R. Nelson, Patsy
and Peter of Toronto, were holiday
visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Ed-
lwards, Mrs.. Nelson and the child-
ten are remaining for a longer visit.

water, Ronald Cadwell of Guelph.

The W.M.S. of the United Church
niet on Thursday evening at the home
of Mrs. Cloyne Michel with an attend-
ance of 14. The President, Mrs. Leon-
ard Rattan presided. The hymn, "Thy
Kingdom Come, 0 Lord" was sting.,
Scripture readings were from Isaiah 2,
2-4, 11, 1-10, Mrs. 'Glad Edgar and
Mrs. Cecil Grainger were in 'charge of
the Worship Service of which the
theme was, "The Nations .get ToGeth-
er." The closing, hymn was "These
Things Shall Be", A dainty lunch was
served by the hostess.
Community Picnic

munity Park, At 3 pan. john Hanna,
M.P.P. will 'be present to speak also
John Winter, Reeve of Rolnick, A ball
game will be played between 8th grade
pupils of the public schools, the north

lemonade, There will be races and a
variety of Sports for all An open ale
