PEEL COUNTY
REMAINS DRY
The Canada Temperance Act, which
prohibits the sale of beer and liquor,
• will remain in farce in Peel County,
Unofficial figures in Monday's pleb-
iscite to determine whether the Act,
_first voted into force in that mainly
rural county in .1914, should be re-
voked or not, gave the vote as 8,407
against 'revocation and 8,121. for re-
. vocation,
The 286-vote majority for the "drys"
was. just about five times as great as
the 57-vote majority in January, 1914,
when this' county, just west of Toron-
to, balloted the C,T.A; into force.
With a little more than 16,500 votes,
them balloting on Monday was consid-
erect light and was about 80 per cent,
of the total votes in the county during
the 1945 Federal election.
More than 25,000 residents were
igible to cast ballots but a light vote
had been predicted. Many farmers
took time from their , work to drive
into polling stations,. although the day
was one of the few sunny ones this
Spring.

A:-,--The ceiling price of ereartiery but-
ter at the retail level depends .on
the laid low cost to the retailer, He
may take a markup not exceeding
3%,, cents per pound. If the sup-
plier sells below the ceiling the re»

accordingly. With the present sup-

Western Ontario cannot exceed 56
