affiliated with the Canadian Teachers'
Federation, The World Organization
of the Teaching 'Profession and is re-
presented on the United Nation's Ed.

ganization, commonly called U.N.E,S,
Each province 14 represented by
three delegates on the Canadian Tea-
chers' Federation which will meet in
Halifax in August.
The Canadian Teachers' Federation
sent two delegates to the World Or-
ganization of the Teaching Profession,
held in Endicott, N.Y, last August.
Delegates attended from 30 countries,
Special services offered to its mem-
bers:
I, "The Educational Courier" a pro-
fessional magazine is publiSlied five
times a year,
2. "News Letter" is the official com-
munication to each member keeping
them in touch with what is going on.
S. The "Sick Benefit Fund" offers
financial protection during prolonged
periods of absence due to illness or ,ac-
cident,
4, Guidance in cases of professional
difficulty the Federation retains a sol-
icitor to give legal advice.
5. A lending library of professional
books is available from the Federation
office without charge.
The backbone of the work of Fed-
eration is carried on by its Provincial
Committees, whose members give free-
ly of their time and effort to advance
the cause of education. There are
eight main Provincial Committees
namely:
1. Research which deals with Tea-,
cher Training, Adult Education, Cur-
riculum, Supervision, Administration,
Health, Text Books, School Plant and
Pre-School Problems.
2, The Legislation Committee stud-
ies all the acts pertaining to Educa-
tion and to Teaching.
3. The Status Committee's function
is to study the present status of teach-
ers in our own country and abroad,
with a view to improvement.
4. The Policy Committee formulates
the policy to be followed by the Fed-
eration in advancing the interests of
the profession.
5. The Publicity Committee creates
interest in Education Week by press
or radio or open nights.
6. The Superannuation Committee
know this Act and its Regulations and
interpret these to the teachers.
.7. The guidance Committee deals
with cases of professional difficulties,
8, The Finance Committee studies
the problem of salaries and salary
schedules.
The Ontario Teaeheq Federation is
governed by a "Board of Governors"
consisting of:
Ten members from the Secondary
Teachers.
Ten members from the Women
Teachers in Public Schools.
Ten members from the Men Teach-
ers in Public Schools.
Ten members from ,the Separate
School Teachers,
Each teacher in the Province is the
Federation and its objective cannot be
obtained unless each teacher supports
them actively and works in unity and
co-operation with the others to obtain
them.

Annual meeting held in Blyth was giv-
en by Miss Mary Murray, Mrs, 0,
G. Anderson of Belgrave, was guest
speaker, She spoke on Hospitalization
and explained the Plans for the Huron

es, At the conclusion lunch was served
by the hostesses, Mrs. Jas. Aitchison,
Mrs, E. J, Thom, and Mrs. W. A, Mil-
ler,
Mrs. G. S, McIntyre and Donald,
of Dileaford; spent the holiday week-
end with het parents, 'Mr, and Mrs,
W. I. Miller.
Rev. M. G, Newton attended the
meeting of the London Conference
held at Chatham last week. He was
accompanied by Mrs.' Newton, who
visited her daughter, Mrs. Charlton at
Port Alma,
Mrs. Mel Brown of Waterloo, was a
guest of her parents, Mr, and Mrs. R.
Woods for the holiday week-end.
Mr. and Mrs. Jack 13rendt and sons
of Detroit, were week-end visitors
with Mr, and Mrs. Gordon McPher-
son.

Church News
At the morning service in the United
Church, Rev. A. G. Hewitt preached
from the text, "Look up to Heaven".
A duet entitled "Drifting" was sung
by ,Mrs. Alex McCracken and Mr.
Hewitt. Mr. Win. N, Blackmore
closed the service with the benediction.
The morning service at Knox Pres-
byterian church was conducted by'
Rev. Leland C, Jorgensen. He con-
cluded the series of sermons on the
ten commandments. He spoke of the
10th commandment as the one that
deals with desire, He explained that
the first four is our duty to God, the
remaining six is our duty to man.
Next Sunday anniversary services will
be held.

story from the chapter "Holes in the
Road" was told by Miss Margaret
Curtis. After singing a hymn all re-
peated the Mizpah benediction.
Women's Institute
The June meeting of the Women's
Institute was held this week at the
home of Mrs. George Hetherington,
witlithe president, Mrs. j. H. Smith,
presiding,
In answer to the roll call "A place
I would like to visit and why." Most
of the members would like to see the
Rockies and British Columbia because
of the beautiful scenery and having
relatives there. However Niagara
Falls and the Thuosand Isles were not
wholly without admirers and one mem-
ber vas so drawn fiy ancestral ties as
to long for Dunfermline and the Forth
Bridge. Miss Margaret Curtis was
appointed temporary leader for the
Blue Cross Hospitalization plan. Miss
Emma Johnston gav'd a report on the
District Annual meeting held at Ethel
in May, when a golden wedding anni-
versary dinner .was enjoyed by over
one hundredguests with a three tiei
birthday cake and decorations in the
Institute colors. Mrs. A. G. Hewitt
spoke on Current Events in India,
Palestine and England especially the
Labor Government and Princess Eliza-
beth. In connection with 'Greece,
Mrs. Hetherington read a letter froni
a 17year old Greek refugee boy in
Naples, thanking George Hethering-
ton for a suit of clothes which he had
sent hint The publicity convener,
Miss MaryDuff, gave publicity to the
excellent numbers* in the new 1947-48
programme.
Mrs. Hewitt and 11,1rs. Darling as-
sisted the hostess in serving refresh-
ments.
Mr, and ,Mrs. Earl Hamilton and
family spent Saturday at Waterloo and
attended the wedding of Mr. Hamil-
ton's brother, Mr. Vernon Hamilton
and Miss Kathleen Stevens. The bride
is the only daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
James Stevens of Kitchener and the
groom is the youngest son of the late
Mr. and Mrs, Robert Hamilton of.
Bluevale. The marriage took place at
Sterling Avenue Chinch, Kitchener.
Following the ceremony, guests num-
bering about thirty, enjoyed dinner at
the "Old Mill", Kitchener. ,
Miss Emma Johnston, Club Leader,
and her class consisting of Miss Joan
Fraser, Miss Wilda Breckenridge,
Miss ',Amid Smith and Miss Roma
Breckenridge, were at Clinton on Sat-
urday, attending the Achievement Day
for Junior Club Girls for the projects,
"The Club Girl Entertains" and "Be-
ing well dressed andwell groomed."

realized they could help each other

were federated in a provincial organi-
zation. ' In 1919 the Secondary Tea-
chers' Federation was formed. In 1920
the P.S. Men Teachers' Federation was
formed and in the same year the lar-
ger Canadian Teachers' Federation
carne into being. 1937 the French-
speaking Teachers in the Ottawa val-
ley formed a Professional Association.
The objectives of the Federation are:
1. To promote and advance the
Cause .of education.
.2, To raise the status of the teach-
ing profession..
, a To promote and advance the in-
terests of teachers and to secure con-
'ditions Which will make possible the
