John W. Brown
The death incurred. on Thursday at •
his holm 911,the C, line, of John Wal-
lace, Brown in his 77th Year. He had
been in failing health for some time.
He was born in Essex county but the
greater part of his life was spent in
Howick.
Surviving are his widow, the for-
pier Harriet Sharpin, one son, Clifford
on the home. farm, and six daughters,
Mrs.' R. Vogan, Molesworth, Mrs.
Harris, Fordwich, Mrs. Gibson, :Wrox-
eter, Mrs, Andy Edgar, Mrs. Archie
Irwin and M4-s, Harold Keil, .Gorric.
Funeral service was held at the N.
D. Irvin Funeral Chapel, on Satur-
day afternoon, Rev. A, Ninuno of
Winghatn, conducting the service, In-
terment was in Gorrie cemtery, Pall
bearers were, Ross Doig, Wm, Doig,
W. Chambers, August Keil, Wilbur
McCracken, Stan Edgar.
Re-Affiliation Service
At the regular meeting of the Wo-
men's Missionary Society, on Thurs-
day evening, June 5th., the members
entertained 'the who present-
ed an inspiring program.
Miss Dorothy Watson sang a solo,
"In the 1Garden" accompanied by Mrs,
K. Hastie. Miss Erland Gregg assist-
ed by Miss • Edith Hastie, led in a de-
votional paper with the theme; "Go-
teach", whicli '-was interspersed . with
verses of the hymn, "Lord, speak' to
rne, that I may speak".. Miss Grace
Harper read the scripture lesson. - •
A dramatization "Make up Your
Life" was put on by Misses Mildred
Parrish and Patricia Strong with Miss
June Brown acting as Candidate Ad-
visor for the -Woman's 'Missionary
Society; when the work of Missionar-
ies • was considered most noble.
A beautiful solo, "Have Thine Own
Way, Lord" was sung by . Dorothy
Watson,
The C.G.I.T. Supt., Mrs. A. L. Step-
hens led led 'in 'an interesting Re-affilia-
tion service. Misses Helen Strong,
Erland Gregg, Maxine Farrish and
Betty Zimmerman assisted in a candle
lighting exercise, which illustrated the

tween Gorrie and Fordwich. Gorrie
took a bad•beating,
Mr. and Mrs. Alex. Graham of Tor-
onto, visited relatives here recently,
and attended the funeral- of Mrs. Gra-
ham's aunt, Mrs, Ben Gibson. of Ford-
wich. Mrs. Gibson was in her 93rd
year.
Mr. and Mrs. John Kaine and son,
Keith of Brooklin, spent the week-end
and holiday with the former's mother,
Mrs. P. Kaine and Miss Martha Kaine.
Miss Bessie Wylie of Toronto,
spent the week-end with her mother.
Mn and Mrs. Gordon Vittie of Wel-
land,,were in attendance at the funeral
of Mr. John W. Brown on Saturday,

Wade over the week-end.
Huron Anglicans Meet At Gorrie
The spring meeting of the Huron
Deanery was held at Gorrie on Friday
with a good attendance. Rev, B. H.
Parr of Goderich was communion cel-
ebrant assisted by Rev. J. L. Hender-
son, Elyth, and Rev. J. C. Caley„ Gor-
rie. Mrs. A. C. Calder Diocesan Dor-
cas Secretary of London, also Mrs.
Smith of Rodney, convener of Deaner-
ies addressed the members of the Wo-
men's Auxiliary. At the joint meeting
in the afternoon those , in attendance
had the pleasure of hearing T. C.
Thomas of Wycliffe'College, Toronto.
A member of the Syrian Church, In-
dia, also Ven. Archdeacon Townsend
of Londan. Rev. B. FL Farr, Goder-
ich, was nominated for rural Dean and
Rev. .j. L. Henderson, Blyth as Sec-
retary. The ladies of St. Stephens
Church, served dinner to the delegates.
Tea was also served at the close of
the afternoon session.
Friends and neighbors of the 6th
and 9th lines gathered at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Brown on
Friday evening to honor their daugh-
ter, Miss June Brown, bride of this
month. The evening was spent in
playing progressive euchre. Prize
winners were Mrs. N. Wade, Mr. 'San-
dy Edgar. Gifts of a coffee table and
lovely ornaments were 'presented to
Miss Brown after which lunch was
served and a short time spent in danc-
ing, Miss Brown was a teacher in the
Junior Room of the Gorrie Public
School for a number of years,

day.

Tuesday night of last week in Wing-
Jiam hospital. He is getting along as
well as can be expected.

don, spent Sunday with the former's

may, visited with Mrs, Thos. Day on

towel, called on Mrs. Jas. Armstrong
on Saturday.

let, were recent visitors with Mr. and
Mrs. Geo. Foster.
Mr, Albert Vanstone of Bayfield,
has been renewing old acquaintances
in the village.
Mr. Stanley Dane and Mr. Chas,
Hooey of Toronto, spent the week7 end
with Mr. and Mrs. Robt. Dane.
Mrs. Dowdall of Toronto, visited
with her parents, Mr. and Mrs; John
Hyndman over the week-end.

The Young People of the United
Church, are having a social at the
home of Miss Gwen Rattan on Friday
evening.
Mr. Royal Moulton of Toronto: a
member of the Temperance Federa-
tion, will speak in the United Church
next Sunday 'evening.
Mr. and Mrs. Birks Robertson of
Greenock, were visitors at Mr. Gord-
on Edgar's on Saturday.
Mr. and Mrs. Mervin Stephens and
Jimmie, of Thotridale, were week-end
visitors in town.
Mrs. Fawcett and Wayne of Chat-
ham, visited with Mr, and Mrs. Ar-
thur Stephens on Sunday.
The W.A. of the United Church
have secured the play, "Betty the Girl
of my Heart" by .Harriston talent for
their Garden Party on July 4th,
The "Tulip Tea" and sale in the S.
S. Room of the United Church on
Saturday afternoon was quite a suc-
cess, in spite of the heavy rain. Bas-
ketvof tulips and Spring flowers made
a pleasing setting while pansies and
lilies of the valley were used on the
tea tables. Mrs. Whitley, Mrs, Win.
Gamble, Mrs. Howes and Mrs. L. Rut-
tan poured tea during the afternoon,
A. nice sum was realized•for the Flow-
er and Cheer Fund. •
Community Club
The June meeting of the Commun-
ity Club of Gorrie and District, will be
held on Monday evening, June 16th.
A good attendance is expected.
Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Boyd of Mt.
Forest, were Sunday visitors with Mr.
and Mrs. T. L. McInnis.
Those from a distance in attent-
ance at the funeral of Mr. John W.
Brown on Saturday were, Mr. Dave

Mrs, Roland Imeson of Wheatley, Mr.

The C.G.I.T. presented a gift to
our President, Mrs. L. Rattan, who
expressed her thanks and closed this
period with, prayer.

Loftier Race" was followed with the
Benediction.
Mrs. Stephens had charge of ['tim-
orous contests and singing of songs. A
social half hour was enjoyed and re-
freshments served' by the Committee
in charge.

will be demonstrated to the people of
Western Ontario, at the R.C.A.F, sta-
tion, Centralia, from noon of june 14,
until a final dance late in the evening.

of air force activities and life in tne,

and then they will pass on to an ex-
hibition of radio and radar equipment,
some of which will be operating.
Should they tire' of this, they can see
an airman's full kit, his rations for the
day and a demonstration of an aver-
age day's activities.
The whOle station, barracks, •cook-
house, messes and hospital will be open
for inspection.
The open house will finish with a
grand firework display and a. dance in ,
the station barracks.-

two-way radio in the station control
tower and check their estimates of the
planes' height. The successful guess-
ers will be rewarded will prizes pre-
sented by the station C.O. Group Cap-

the public at noon with a short address
