The "citizenship" meeting of the W.
I. was held at the home of Mrs, I. U.
Coulter with art attendance of sixteen,
The president-Mrs, J, S, Procter pre-
Sided and -opened the meeting in the
usual manner, The various reports were
received as read, Plans for the planting
of the flower bed at the cemetery were
discussed and it was left with the com-
inittee in charge to purchase the rennin.
ed plants needed, also those having
their geranium plants started leave with
Mrs. F, Cook or Mrs. R, J. MacKensie.
The president urged that every mem-
ber attend the T. B, Clinic. correspon-
denee inclnded a program 'of the "a-
chievement day" which is to be held in
Clinton on June 14 to which an invita-
tion was extended to all interested, -
Also a special invitation to attend the
50th anniversary celebration to be held .
at Guelph on June 18. Cards of appre-
ciation were also read. The June meet-
ing will be held the 4th Tuesday, June
24 in place of the usual day and will be
held at the home of Mrs, N. Higgins,
This is to be a special meeting to cele-
brate the 50th anniversary of the W. I.
A committee of Mrs. N, Walsh, Miss
Edith Procter, Mrs. E. Anderson and
Mrs, J. S. Procter were appointed to
arrange the program for this meeting.
• A vocal solo, "Sntilin Through" was
contributed by Mrs, 5. Wickstead.
A splendid report of, the District An-
nual held at Blyth was given by Mrs.
E, Anderson.
A pleasant feature in the program
took place at this time, as a token of
appreciation for services well rendered
as treasurer of the branch for the past,
20 years Mrs. John Coultes was presen-
ted with a flowered table cloth and an
address of thanks. Mrs. E. Anderson
read the address and made the presen-
tation. The recipient, though taken very
much by surprise, replied graciously,
The address on "Citizenship" was given
by Mrs. (Rev.) Dunlop and was en-
titled, "I am a Canadian", It was Jan-
uary 3, 1947 that the "citizenship act"
was inaugurated in Canacla,we can say
with pride and meaning, "I am a Can-
adian citizen".
The new world into which We are
moving demands a much higher stan-
dard of citizenship from every one than
before. A sense of duty before rights, of
work honestly and keenly done. A pow-
er to choose what in Popular amuse-
ment and habits is recreative and so -
cially good and to reject what is un-
dermining and weakening to public life.
A power of criticism to distinguish be-
tween the sound and the shoddy. Let
us seek to-gether to make Canada a
land to love and be glad to say,, "I am
a Canadian",
The roll call was in the form, of a
questionaire and was on, "Know your
township and county officials", and -was
conducted by Mrs. C. R. Coultes.
Collection was received and the
meeting closed with, ."The'King",
Lunch was served by the hostess as-
sisted by Mrs. George Michie, Mrs.
Richard Procter and Mrs. C. R, Coul-
tes,

opposed to it. Some thought they
would be inviting the wrath of Provi-
