hindered around here by the wet wea-
ther. The holiday on Saturday was
observed quietly, stores being closed
and the ground- was too wet for the

old of Toronto. Stewart, who is just
twenty-two years of age, has com-
pleted four years at the School of Prac-
tical Science, University of Toronto,
and graduates June 5th as Bachelor of
Applied Science (Civil Engineering).

Word has been beeti received here
from Mrs, George Harris, who, with
her invalid husband, left here May 13th
to return to their western home that
they had arrived safely. Mr. Harris
will be a patient at the hospital at.

Mis's Jennie L.. Cross
Miss Jennie L. Cross passed peace-
fully away at noon on Saturday at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. George' Foster
where she has been taken care of by
Mrs. Foster for a number of years.
Prior to coming to Gorrie she had
broken her hip which left her an in-
valid. Deceased was in her 93rd year,
The greater part of her life was spent
in the Owen Sound district 14 here she
was 'a school teacher for many years.
Funeral service was conducted by Rev.
J. C. Caley on Sunday afternoon at
4.30 p.m. in the sf. D. Irvin Funeral
Home. Interment was at Owen Sound
on Monday.
Mr. Joe Earngey of HanoVer visited
his mother, Mrs. Wm, Earngey on Sat-
urday,

a Regional meeting of the Red Cross
at Hanover on Tuesday. The after-
noon meeting was addressed by Mrs.
A. C. McKenzie of Beaverton, Chair-
man of Branch Programme Committee,
and by Mrs. E. Coleman, Chairman of
the Women's Work Committee. The
speaker for the evening was Mr. Alan
L, Ambrose of Hamilton, President of
the Ontario Division. A banquet was
tendered delegates from Grey, Bruce,-
Wellington and North Huron.

Gregg, Mr. and Mrs. Hilt.• Ashton,
also Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Fallis were
in Harriston on • Thursday attending
the funeral of their cousin, Miss Mabel
Jackson, who died in Winnipeg last
Saturday. Her remains were brought
to Harriston for burial in the family
plot.
Women's Auxiliary
The W. A. of the Anglican Church
met at the home of Mrs. Frank King,
on Friday afternoon. The ladies work-
ed at quilt patches. The President,
Mrs. Holmes presided for the business
and devotional meeting. Plans were I made for entertaining the Huron Dean-
ery on Friday, June 6th. Mrs. E.
King read Psalm 26. The theme of
the meeting was "Worship" and Mrs.
Norman Wade gave some thoughts on
that subject. Rev. J. C. Caley closed
with prayer' and the hostess served a
delicious lunch.

attended the forty-fifth annual meeting
of the Women's Institute of East Her-
Ion District on Thursday last in Ethel.
This is the fiftieth year of the organi-
ization of the Women's Institute and
lit was fittingly observed. Honoured
guests at the head table were Past
District Officers and Charter Mem-
bers of the various branches, The
knife was placed in the birthday cake
by the District. President, Mrs. Chas.
Mathers of Bluevale, Miss Martha
Kaine is Gorrie's only Charter Mem-
ber but due to ill health was ki n able to
attend, Mrs. P. Kaine is a former
Dist, Secretary-Treasurer.
Visitors on Sunday with gr. and
Mrs. W. H. Marshall were their daugh-
ter, Mrs. T,,D. Dance and Mr. Dance,
London; on Saturday, their son Mr.
Alex, Marshall and Mr. W. G. Ackin-
son of Stratford. Mr, and Mrs, Wes,
jermyn. of Brussels were guests at the
hame home on Monday.

Red Cross Drive a Success
The sum of $461 has been collected
for the Red Cross up to date, in Gor-
rie and district, for their peace-time
projects. This is a very good contri-
bution. We understand the Canadian
Red Cross is giving unprecedented
peacetime assistance to Great Britain.
