The May meeting of Wroxeter Wo-
men's Institute will be held on Wed-
nesday afternoon, May 7th., -at the
home of Mrs. H. V. McKenney, Re-
ports of standing committees will be
heard, Hospitalization will be the
subject of an address by a representa-
tive of Continental Insurance Co. Mrs.
MacKenney will have charge of the
Current Events. Mrs. H. I. Durst will
present the co-operative programme.

East Huron W. I. Hold Short Course
Miss Ann Lawson Women's Instit-
ute Branch and Home Economic's Ser-
vice, Dept. of Agriculture, on Thurs-
day, last in the United Church school
room gave a Lecture on Better Meals
with Home Grown Cereals. The lec-
ture preceded a demonstration on the
use of whole wheat in making muf-
fins, Miss Lawson said milk tops the
list in essential foods. Five Branches,
Majestic (Brussels), Ethel, Ford-
wich, Gorrie and Wroxeter were pres-
ent. At the close of the afternoon ses-
sion tea was served and a social hour
enjoyed.
Bride and Groom Presented
Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Hopper, Bel-
grave, were guests of honour at S. S.
No. 2, Turnberry, on Thursday night,
when friends and neighbours met for a
social -evening. Dancing was enjoyed
following the serving of refreshments
an address was read by Miss Flora
McTavish, and on behalf of friends
and neighbours Mr. Eldon Kirton pre-
sented a gift of money. The bride was
the former Jean Sharpin. Best wishes
of her home community are extended
to Mr. and Mrs. Hopper for a long and
happy wedded life.

Young People's Union
Mrs. Merwyn Grainger presided
over the weekly meeting of the Young
People's Union, in the absence of the
president, Miss .-Helen Sawtell. The
meeting opened with quiet music with
Margaret Wearring at the piano. All
the way- My Saviour leads me was the
opening hymn, Ronald McMichael
chose for the scripture reading, psalm
9, Edythe.Weir gave a fine address on
the subject, "God and prayer. Thelma
Denny presented the minutes. The
hymn I'm not ashamed to own my
Lord- and the Mizpah benediction
brought an interesting meeting to a
close.
United. Church Service
Rev, Mr. Cronin of Benmiller and
Nile, was guest speaker at morning
service in United Church, and spoke
from Hebrew's Chapter 11, comparing
our day with the day of Abraham, who
answered the call of God to leave the
city go out into the country teach and
preach and said the World needs today,
men and women who study the word
of God. Have faith in the teachings of
the bible, Are willing to adventure
and make decisions, patiently endure
the wrongs and misunderstandings as
Abraham did in his time, Miss Gil-
berta Howes and Miss Helen Sawtell
favoured with a duet, "That beautiful
Land" and the choir under the direc-
tion of Mr. G. A. Wearring and Miss
Mary Gibson organist, sang an anthem
Rock of Ages.
Special Service May 11th.
Mother's Day Service will be held
in United Church on Sunday next. The
Sunday School pupils will carry out
the special service under the guidance
of Rev. J. L. Foster. A Mother's Choir
will provide music.
Easter Thank Offering Meeting
The Women's Missionary Society
United Church, held their Easter
Thank Offering Meeting in the United
Church on Sunday -evening, Rev. 3. L.
Foster presided and the guest speaker
was Miss Francis Heard. A Mission-
ary on furlough. Miss Heard who has
spent twenty-six years 'of her life in
Japan and was recalled during the War
years to Canada where she engaged in
Missionary 'work among the Japanese,
on the West Coast, The speaker gave
a vivid picture of the evacuation from
the West Coast and her work at Lem-
on Creek, a settlement of 1800 Japan-
ese, the setting up of schools for the
children of all ages, the devotion of
the Christians its carrying out the
work of the church in the settlement,
much of which was, made possible by
the support of the W.M.S. Of Japan
where she spent so many years she
said one in every 250 are Christians.
This small minority were against war
and suffered much through bombings,
but in spite of it the inflation and pov-
erty, the Christians carry on the gos-
pel teaching and ate pleading for 1000
Missionaries, Miss Heard suggested
that the younger people go anti work
together with the young Japanese, and
told stories to prove this the best way
to prevent future wars. Rev. Mr. Vos.

fore leaving to visit her brother in
Vancouver, B, C.
The Play, O Promise Me, present-
ed by the Holywood caste, in the Me-
morial Hall here last Thursday even-
ing, under the auspices of the Presby-
terian Young People's Group, drew a
full house. The young millionaire
found himself in many ridiculous pos-
itions trying to -elude those who were
attracted to him by his money alone.
Miss Fisher, and Raymond Adams
sang solos between acts accompanied
by Mr. MacGregor. The Presbyter-
ian ladies served lunch to the caste..
