Poultry Farm and Hatchery
Elmer J. Farrish & Sons Gorrie, Ont.
THIRTY years ago this Spring we purchased our first baby
chicks, and since that time we have been in the poultry business con-
tinually. We now have a poultry plant of which we are justly
proud. We have made a study of culling and selection for egg pro.
duction and meat type, and when you purchase your chicks you get
the benefit of our experience. All the parent stock is blood-tested
annually.
This year we offer you the following in Baby Chicks:

(1) The dust bag should be turned
inside out and brushed off, every 4
months.
(2) Remove all hairs, threads, etc.,
carefully, once a week.
(3) Oil the cleaner according to the

You
your' family who thinks there is no
dessert in the world like apple crisp.
He is not far wrong, particularly if
you use the following recipe and take
enough cream from the top of the milk
bottle to whip and plaCe on the des-
sert just 'before serving, Be sure to
add to the cream, besides a little
brown sugar, a pinch of nutmeg. (You,
will likely have to explain to the fam-

when they taste it.)
APPLE CRISP
113 cup oatmeal, 114 cup sugar,
118 tsp, soda, 118 tsp. baking pow-
der, 112 cup whole wheat flour, 118
tsp, salt, 1(4 cup fat (preferably
good quality vegetable fat,)
Place sliced apples in shallow bak-
ing dish and place in moderate oven
until apples become soft. Then light-
ly spread the above mixture, -suhich has
been combined in the order given and
is of a crumby consistency, over the
apples. Place in oven and leave until
the crust is delicately browned, Serve
hot with whipped cream or rich milk,
This dessert may be successfully made
substituting rhubarb, prunes or fresh,
peaches instead of the apples. If you
do not happen to have oatmeal in the
house, we have found that the whole
wheat alone is almost nice.
And let us celebrate with a few dat-
es using them in a good old fashioned
steamed pudding. Nothing is more
popular 'With the men and here is a
recipe utilizing rolled oats:

Hello Homemakersl From washing
dishes three times a day to the annual
spring housecleaning, the everlasting
cleaning goes on. It must have been
observation of woman's endless attack
on dirt that spurred manufacturers to
make those perpetual motion cleaners.
The vacuum cleaner is a real help
durihg housecleaning, This machine
cannot pick up sharp objects but does
take the imbedded dirt out of any fab-

work easily for you.

ator should be done immediately by
letter or phone in order that your
schedule will be in accordance with his
time table. (Hope he will be able to
keep his date.) It is also time to set=
ect your wallpaper and paint. Many
people are reverting to the new versa-
tile papers for walls thus it is wise to
make an early selection, and you can
jot down the date to send the drapes
and slip covers to the cleaners so they
will be back when your rooms are
fresh,
With all this done you can clean
out drawers and cupboards, This job
takes time as you know and it takes
courage for me to say this: be ruthless
in disposing of the bits of "junk" that
creases the life of our rugs. May I
suggest that housecleaning time is op-
portune for turning around the big
rugs. We have also planned to paint
the screen doors and window screens
while the decorator is in the house.
R. says: If you find rubber
gloves difficult to wear while cleaning
it's a good idea to wear a pair of worn
cotton ones underneath.

duce a pedestrian who can jump three
ways at once.
