Over Ninety Birthduy Club as having
observed her 91st birthday, Mrs. Clark
is well "known here, having been a
resident on the 6th concession for
many years. She and her daughter

Mr. and Mrs, Ernest King returned
on Saturday after spending the past
two months with their daughter, Mrs.

couver, B.C. He is a brother of Mr.
George Townsend and of the late Mrs.
R. H. Carson and spent his early days
on the 4th Con. of Howick. Mr.
Townsend-Passed away very suddenly,
.having been in apparently good health
in y.anuaiy when Mr, and Mrs. T.
Bradnock visited with him while in
Vancouver.
Mr. Bert Cook, C.P.R. ;Agent at
Mount Forest and a former Agent here
and at Wroxeter, is retiring, effective
March 1st. He expected "to retire last
September but due to shortage of ex-
perienced help he continued his duties
Six months longer. He and Mrs. Cook
will continue to, reside in Mount For7
est where they have purchased a home.

for many years. Old-timers recall a
winter some forty-four years ago.

weeks. No, 87 highway was opened
for traffic early Sunday morning but
only as far as Wroxeter. From there
to No. 86 highway by Morrisbank, is
the road now used to reach Wingham.

their. postponed dinner meeting Tues-
day night, Mar, 11 in the Orange I-tall
here. The Evening Auxiliary of the
Anglican Church is serving the dinner.
Mrs. W. C. King spent Monday in
Wingham,
The second game in the two-out-of-
three series of the W.O.A,A, hockey
finals was played in the Wingham
Arena on Monday night between Lon-
desboro and Gorrie Intermediates with
Londesboro winning by a score of 5-4.
Gorrie won the first game 7-6 and, the
third game will be played in Wingham
On 'Wednesday night. Much interest is
being shown in these games and Gorrie
citizens are quite proud of their hockey
team.

the S. S. room. Sunday evening. Joyce
Thornton was in charge of program.
There was a good attendance. Betty
Howes and Audrey Hastic will have
charge of the '41neeting next Sunday

Mr. and Mrs. David Campbell and
spent Sunday with Listowel friends.
Mr. Thuell and Keith were in Ripley
over the week-end.
Funeral services were held in M. D.
Irwin's Chapel on Sunday for Mr,
Alonzo Sparling of Con, 2, Howick.
Rev. J. L. Foster conducted the ser-
vice and interment was made in Wrox-
eter cemetery. Mr. Sparling passed
away on. Thursday. Deceased was in
his 74th' year.

morning Rev. A. G. Hewitt used as
his text, 1 Corinthians, 3rd. Chapter,
verse 11. "Other Foundation can no
man lay, than is laid":' He spoke of
Jesus Christ as the foundation for
Christian teaching and preaching and
for the 'Christian gospel arid Christian
life.
Rev. Leland C. Jorgensen occupied
his pulpit at Knox . Presbyterian
Church, He had for his subject "The
Jericho Prophet" based on the 1st.
verse of the 2nd. chapter of .2 Kings.

As the road to Belmore is still block-
ed the afternoon service there wai can-
celled,
Charles Mathers, who recently un-
derwent an operation for appendicitis,
at the Wingham General. Hospital, has
made a good recovery and returned to
his home on Friday.
Miss Audrey Hunkin, bookkeeper at
the Creamery, returned to her duties
on Saturday, after being stormstayed
at her home in Belmore for a week.
Mr. and Mrs. J. Marshall and two
daughters of Listowel, spent Sunday
at the home of Mr, and Mrs., George
Thornton.
Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Elliott spent Sun-
day with their daughter, Mrs. Charles
MitICI'S and Charles.
Women's Institute
The March meeting was held at the
home of Mrs. Fred Hyndman on Tues-
day, March 11 at 2.30 p.m. Mrs.
Percy Ashton had charge of the pro-
gram. Miss Erland Gregg took the
motto and roll call was "How I make
my head save my heels."
Hockey Notes
Some ,500 hockey fans were in at-
tendance at the third game of the semi-
finals held in Wingham on February
25 when Gorrie Intermediates were
winners over Fordwich by a score of
9-4. Goallgetters were Heihein 4,
Neilson 2, Harrison 2, Ken. Johnston
1, This gave Gorrie the right to meet
Londesboro in the finals for the cham-
pionship of Group 2 of the W.p.A.A.
The first game of the two7put-61-three
series was played in Wingham on Sat-
urday night, March 1st and after ten
minutes of overtime Gorrie emerged
2.5.00 to 39.50

At Knox Presbyterian Church,
Rev. Leland C. Jorgensen used as his
subject "The Glory of the Christ" as'
described in the 9th chapter of St.
Luke's gospel, verses 28 to 36. He
spoke of Christ transfigured; the ap-
pearance of Moses and Elias; and the
coming of the cloud.
