Sask., who have been spending the
winter with Howick relatives, and Mr.
:Bert Harris, 15th. con., were recent
' visitors in Toronto.
Trains were cancelled here on
Thursday after the bad storm of the !previous evening,
Howick Lions Midgets were defeat-
' ed in a game played here last Tuesday
evening, by boys from Moorefield.
The score was 13-3.
About 18 members of the Young
:People's Union accepted an invitation
to a Skating Party put on by Wrox-
eter Yonug People's Union on Wed-
nesday evening and spent an enjoy-
able time. After skating, games were
played and lunch was served,
Mrs, Robt. Cathers who has been ill
is spending some time at the home of
her daughter, Mrs. Alvin Moffat, of
Wroxeter.
Gorrie Hockey Team were at Ford-
wich on Wednesday evening and play-
ed with the Fordwich team, The game
resulted in a tie of 5-5.
The W.M.S, of the United Church
will meet at the parsonage on Thurs-
day, February 6th.
The W.A. ofSt. Stephen's Church
will meet at the home of Mrs. H. V.
Holmes 'on Thursday, Feb. 6th.
Mr. Jim Collins, Molesworth, and
Mr. and Mrs. Ira Neill of Salem, were
Saturday visitors with Mr. and Mrs.
Geo, Brown.
Miss Doreen Hayes daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. John Hayes, 15th. conces-
sion, has taken a position in Mr. Cam,
Edgar's store.
Mrs. Wm. Merkley and George of
Belmore, spent a day last week with
her aunt, Mrs. Jas. Shera.

last week.

have moved to their fine new home,
which is now completed. We wish for

Billie Stafford, 13th con., while play-
ing on the ice at school on Wednesday,
had the misfortune to fall and fracture
his shoulder bone. He was taken to
Wingham Hospital for Xray.
Mrs, Lorne Walker and Mr. Tom
Short are also suffering from falls on
the icy streets.

Mr. Harry Ferguson is, in Listowel
Hospital, having undergone an opera-
tion for appendicitis on Thursday af-
ternoon. His condition is reported as
satisfactory. Owing to the blocked
roads after Wednesday night's storm,
Mr. Ferguson was taken to the hospi-
tal in a snowmobile. It took over
three hours to make the trip to Listo-
wel.

Fordwich, spent Sunday with Mr.
Frank Cole and Mrs. Etta Day.

. Miss .Sarah Johnston
Miss Sarah Johnston passed away
early Sunday morning at her home
here after an illness of about three
weeks. She was a daughter of the late
Edward Johnston and Janet Allen, and
was born in Carrick township, her par-
ents later moving to the Howick-,Car-
rick boundary, She has resided in
Gorrie for a number of years. Of a
family of nine children only one bro-,
ther, Howard of Carrot River, Sask.,
survives. Four sisters, Mrs. Whitwell
Lowish (Martha, Mrs. Robt. Wallace
(Edith), Mrs. Abram (Maggie), and
Miss Bella, and three brothers, Wm.'

Gorrie Rink Winners at Palmerston
Two rinks of curlers from here took
part in the bonspiel at Palmerston on
Monday. One of the rinks was suc-
cessful in bringing home the cup of
Gorrie, also winning very fine prizes
of satin comforters for each one. Bert
