Mission Band Meeting
The Mission Band met on Saturday
afternoon with a good attendance. The
meeting was led' by Lorna Buchanan.
Scripture lesson was read by Laurence
Campbell; prayer by Mrs. Norman
McDowell; reading, Gwendolyn Mc-
Dowell. The Study Book was taken
by Mrs. Chas. Smith and Mrs. Nor-
man McDowell told the children a
story.
WESTFIELD
U. C, Congregational Meeting
The annual congregational meeting
of the Westfield Church was held on
Thursday afternoon following .a pot-
lock dinner which everyone. enjoyed.
The meeting opened with the hymn,
"The Church's One Foundation", foll-
owed by Scripture and prayer by the
Pastor, Rev, Harold Snell. The min-
utes of the previous meeting were read
and approved. The various Secretaries
gave their reports. The Stewards re-
sort showed $1931.86 raised, with a
balance of $60.57, The W. A. $180.00,
Mission Band $14.53, W.M,S. $185.50,
Baby Band $20.19, Missionary and
Maintenance $272.59, Sunday School
$1.$1.40, with $10,00 of a balance;
Building Fund $730.04, including per-
sonal donations, and donations from
Sunday School, W. A. and Ball Club.
The Y.P.U, reported $56.58 raised dur-
ing the year. Total amount raised for
the year $2522.70. The members of
Session are Messrs. Marvin McDowell,
McDowell, W. F. Campbell, WIT!.
Walden, and a new member will be
elected to the Session in the near fa-

Explosion at . Gorriet—Acetylene
Plant blew up and caused great havoc,
sA terrific explosion shook the village.
of Gorrie about six o'clock on Satur-
day evening, when the town acetylene
plant exploded, blowing the building,
which was broken into kindling wood,
a whole block away, So great was
the detonation that it was heard for
miles around, while windows were
shattered all over town by the concus-
sion ; windows as far away as the
station, one half mile from the plant,
were broken. The chief sufferers in
this respect were the Township Hall,
the Presbyterian church and the Public
School. In spite of the destruction, no
one was hurt, The village is at present
without lights,
Weather:—The weather in this part
of Ontario at least, has been most re-
markable weather this winter. Almost
every Saturday and Sunday are stormy
and the weather. during the middle of
the week is excellent.
Whitechurch:—A sleigh-load from
the 4Th Con, of Kinloss, spent a pleas-
ant evening at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. John Falconer on Wednesday;
Mr. and Mrs. Alex Mowbray spent
Friday with their parents, Mr. and
Mrs, John Mowbray; Mr. Harris Fur-
don of St, Helens, visited for a couple
of days last week with his uncle, Mr.
Wm, Purdon; Mrs. Frank Vanner of
Wingham, spent the, week-end at the
home of Mr. and Mrs, Jas. Cornelius.
Glenannan:—Mr. Harry Forgie re-
turned home after spending sometime
with friends in Timmins; Mrs. Sam
Marshall, spent a few clays recently
with her mother, Mrs. Shoebottom in
Wingham.
B luevale :—Mrs. Wrn. Dulmage of
Harriston,• spent a few days with her
cousins, Mrs, Jas. Moffatt and Mrs, J.
Fell; on the 10th of January, Lee
Breckenridge's dog caught and killed
a ground hog across the road in An-
son Thornton's field; Mr. Wm. Robin-
son of Goderich, visited, at the home
of Mr. J. McKinney last week.

game of hockey on Tuesday evening,
the Wingham Seniors defeated Tees-
water in Teeswater by a score of 6 to
5, When time was called the game
stood 3 all and it was decided to play
ten minutes overtime. The line-up
