The meeting was led' by Lorna Buchanan. Scripture lesson was read by Laurence Campbell; prayer by Mrs. Norman McDowell; reading, Gwendolyn Mc- Dowell. The Study Book was taken by Mrs. Chas. Smith and Mrs. Nor- man McDowell told the children a story. WESTFIELD U. C, Congregational Meeting The annual congregational meeting of the Westfield Church was held on Thursday afternoon following .a pot- lock dinner which everyone. enjoyed. The meeting opened with the hymn, "The Church's One Foundation", foll- owed by Scripture and prayer by the Pastor, Rev, Harold Snell. The min- utes of the previous meeting were read and approved. The various Secretaries gave their reports. The Stewards re- sort showed $1931.86 raised, with a balance of $60.57, The W. A. $180.00, Mission Band $14.53, W.M,S. $185.50, Baby Band $20.19, Missionary and Maintenance $272.59, Sunday School $1.$1.40, with $10,00 of a balance; Building Fund $730.04, including per- sonal donations, and donations from Sunday School, W. A. and Ball Club. The Y.P.U, reported $56.58 raised dur- ing the year. Total amount raised for the year $2522.70. The members of Session are Messrs. Marvin McDowell, McDowell, W. F. Campbell, WIT!. Walden, and a new member will be elected to the Session in the near fa- tore. Board of Stewards—Messrs. Gorriet—Acetylene Plant blew up and caused great havoc, sA terrific explosion shook the village. of Gorrie about six o'clock on Satur- day evening, when the town acetylene plant exploded, blowing the building, which was broken into kindling wood, a whole block away, So great was the detonation that it was heard for miles around, while windows were shattered all over town by the concus- sion ; windows as far away as the station, one half mile from the plant, were broken. The chief sufferers in this respect were the Township Hall, the Presbyterian church and the Public School. In spite of the destruction, no one was hurt, The village is at present without lights, Weather:—The weather in this part of Ontario at least, has been most re- markable weather this winter. Almost every Saturday and Sunday are stormy and the weather. during the middle of the week is excellent.
