Mr. and Mrs. Blake Young and Ila Jean, of Pleasantdale, Sask., were were guests of Mr. Thos. and Miss B. Shearer on Thursday. Mr. Clavin Moffatt, Toronto, is spending the holiday season with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Moffat. Mrs. J. Lovell, who has been a pat- ient in Wingham General Hospital, for the past three weeks, left on Saturday to spend several weeks with her niece, Mrs. Russel Glendenning of Blenheim. Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Bolt and two daughters of Belgrave, were recent vis- itors of the former's mother, Mrs. Eli Bolt Mr. Thos. McKercher. Miss Agnes 'Weaning, Listowel, was a week-end guest with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. R, Wearring, Teachers and pupils are having a busy week Preparing and presenting their school concerts, S. S. No, 2 on Wednesday night. Wroxeter Public School in Town Hall on the evening of the 19th. Miss .Viola Thacker is teacher at No. 2, Turnberry, Mr. Ham- ilton and Mrs, G. A. Wearring, teach- ers of Wroxeter Public School. Special' Christmas Service St. James Anglican Church will hold their Christmas Service on Sun- day evening next, at 7 p.m. The guest speaker will be Canon Wallace of London, and Trinity Church Choir from Fordwich will assist the local choir. Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Mines and son, Billy, were guests of H. V. and Mrs. McKenney one clay last week. Appeal To Women's Institute For the past several years Wroxeter Women's Institute has sent a bale of new and used clothing to a needy section in Northern Ontario. Last week an appeal has again come to the Secretary, telling of the urgent need for clothing. The letter states school children have to travel four miles by lumber wagon to school. As in past years, their group will make over or sew new materials for the use of those in need in their community. It has been suggested that members or any others in .the village and Community who can spare clothing will bring it to the January meeting, to be held Jan. 2nd., or get in touch with president, Mrs. H. V. McKenney or Secretary, Mrs. W. T. Maclean. Fire Brigade Called Mrs. David Anger narrowly escaped losing her home by fire on Tuesday evening last, when a chimney fire got out of control. A high wind prevailed but with the help of neighbours, the fire was out before the brigade arrived. St. James Guild Mrs. Edwin Bennett opened her home on Tuesday afternoon for the December meeting of the Guild of St. James Anglican Church. The presi- dent, Mrs. H. V. McKenney presided, and the opening hymn, Praise we the Lord, this day was followed by repeat- ing of the Lord's Prayer. Community Christmas Tree Everyone in the countryside loves a Christmas Tree and because of this, for the pleasure and happiness of young and old, the Wroxeter Commun- ity Association have set ,up a beautiful- ly lighted and decorated Tree on Main Street. This is just one of the num- ber of worthwhile projects undertaken by this group, for the good of village' and surrounding country, and we feel sure every citizen will appreciate their effort at this holiday season. United S. S. Xmas .Party Teachers and Officers of United Church Sunday School have planned their annual social evening and Christ- mas Tree for the evening of Decem- ber 23rd., in the church basement. The different classes will contribute num- bers to a programme. Santa Claus will make a visit during the evening. Parents and friends are asked to pro- vide refreshments. United Church Servvice Christmas Carols were sung at Sun- day morning service at United Church, when Rev, J. L. Foster chose for his text, Fear Not! I am the first and the laSt, I am Alpha, and Omega, the be- ginning and ending. Revelations, Chapter one, A Christmas Anthem was contributed by the choir, a lovely basket of mums and. roses were placed in the church by the family of the late I Mrs. Robert Stocks, who with her hus- band, the late Robert Stocks, yere val- uable members of the church and to the life of both the pastor paid fine tributes in his address. Mrs. James Douglas led in prayer, Holy Night, Silent Night, was sung. The guest speaker was Mrs. John taught the real meaning of Christmas.
