Wing Wandering Auxiliary Finds Home In New Wingham
A day long to be remembered in the annals
of the W in gha In General Hospital; IS Thursday
ofi last week, when a crowd of about one, thbusand
people attended the Official opening of the new
wing, R. H. Lloyd, chairman of the Board„ pre-
sided, and in. his remarks paid tribute to the Sup-
erintendent, Mrs. Iris Morrey, and her staff for
the capable way they have Carried .during the
past few years. During"the period of construction
of the new -wing they worked under extrere. dif-
ficulties, Such as zt lack of an 7elevator for, more
than a year. He had high praise for the Ladies'
kuxiliary, who besides raising considerable
'money, provide hospital linens, surgical .dress-
ings, repair sheets, etc. Their work is estimated
at about $1500 per. year, and .the hospital could
not carry on without them.
Theinew wing was erected at a cost
of, about. $110,000, of which $18,000 is
stineeded, donations- had been receiv-
ed of $25,000 for the County of Hur-

berry, Morris, -East and West Wawa-

Blyth, • Lucknow, Teeswater, the bal-
ance being made up by private sub-
scription.
The prayer of dedication was offer-,
4es1 by Rev. J. N. H. Norton, president
of the Ministerial Association.
THE NEW WINS
After much deliberation by the
board, the idea of erecting a new•wing
was decided on, and work commenced
in April, 1945, and was successfully
carried on despite increasing difficult-
ies of finances and material shortage.
The original estimate was $45,000,
which figure increased until at its
completion cost $110,000.
Present capacity of the hospital is
50 beds, including nine ultra-modern
cubicles -for babies into which even
doctors are not permitted. The build-
ing consists of three floors, and a base-
ment which is on ground level at the
rear.,
New eqiupment includes, a $10,000
X-ray unit, obtained through the John
Cornyn Currie estate, which is said
to surpass anything in larger city hos-
pitals. It is installed in a lead walled
room. The hospital has Gatch beds
throughout; the latest in operating
room and, obstetrical equipment, and a
specially designed kitchen with sup-

While the Department spent nearly
$15,000,;000 annually, he regretted that,
the greater part of this was spent after
people got sick, rather than in preven-
tative measures. At the close of his
retharks he cut the white ribbon which
officially opened the new -wing.
Dr. Hobbs Taylor, M.P.P. for South
Huron and Elston Cardiff, M.P. for.
Huron North, spoke briefly. Capt. W.
John W. Hanna, M.P.P„ for Huron-
