of the oldest residents. He was fore-
man on the C.N.R. until his retriement
a few years ago, He was never mar-
ried, and leaves two sisters, Mary Jane
and Mrs. Bogie of Detroit. Service
was held on Friday in charge of Rev.
H. Sinclair of the United Church, The
pallbearers were Herb. McElroy, R.
Scott, J. Cole, James Davis. Interment
in Union Cementery.

Mr.. Alvin Townsend of Stratford, is
holidaying at his home, 4th eon,
Mr. and Mrs. R. W. N. Wade were
in Gait from Priday until Sunday,
where they attended the Fair and vis-
ited with friends,
Mrs. P. Ashton, Mrs. E. Snarling,
Mr. and Mrs. C. Gregg, Mr, Murray
Edgar and Alvin Townsend were at
the Stratford Fair on. Wednesday of
last week,
A large number of spectators were
at the, plowing demonstration on the
McLaughlin. Farm last Tuesday after,
noon,
Junior Home Making Clubs
Misses Erland Gregg, Joyce Thorn-
ton, Helen Strong, Wilmajean and
Grace Edgar were in Stratford on
Wednesday last where they took part
in the Junior Homemaking Club Judg-
ing Competition and also exhibited
"Dressing Up Home Grown Veget-
ables". All five girls were prize win-
ners and are to be congratulated, also
the local leaders, members of the W.
I. who coached them.
Mr. and Mrs, Elmer Farrish spent
a few days in Ottawa the first of the
week.
Mr. Vernon Scott of Toronto, visited
on Saturday last with Mr. and Mrs,
W. J. Gallaher,
Mr, and Mrs, Cecil Day, Mr. and
Mrs. Clarence Snarling and Yvonne,
spent Sunday in London and Inger=
soil with their cousins, Mr. and Mrs.
,Geo. Grover and Mr. and Mrs. Dick
Nancekivell.

Sunday in Ashfield with Mr. and Mrs.
Lorne Farrish.

Harriston, were guests of Mr. and
Mrs. Elmer Downey on Sunday.

were recent visitors with Mr. and Mrs.
M. Gilkinson.

Gwendolyn, spent Sunday with Mr.
and Mrs. John Gowdy, Salem.
Mrs. Fred Lewis and son, Arthur, of
Wingham, were Sunday guests of Mr.
and Mrs. John Finley.
Miss Isobel King of Toronto, is
spending a week's vacation at her
home here.
Mr. Frank Cole and Mrs. Etta Day
spent Sunday at Fordwich with 'Mr.
and Mrs, Wardie Schaefer.
Mr.., and Mrs. Milton Operthauser
of Elmira, spent Sunday with the lat-
ter's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Fos-
ter.
Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Elliott of Tor-
onto, were recent visitors with Mr.
Walter King.
Born—In Wingham General Hos-
pital, on September 11th., to Mr. and
Mrs. Carl Dinsmore, a daughter, Gail
Karen.
Miss Betty Harper of Elmira, spent
Sunday at her home here,
Miss Wilma Heiebin is Spending
some time in Toronto. We are sorry
to learn that her sister, Jean, has been
seriously ill.
Anniversary At United Church
On Sunday, Septernebr 29th., An-
n iversary will be conducted by Rev.
J, W. Stewart, B.A.,B.D., of Luck-
now. Mr. Stewart is an able speaker
and all are cordially invited to attend
these services at 11 'a.m. and 7.30 p.
n. Standard Time. There will be
special music by the choir.
United Church W.A.
The monthly meeting of the W. A.
of the 'United Church was held on
September 19th., at the home of Mrs.
Chas. Black, with the vice-president,
Mrs. H. Ashton in the chair. The
meeting was opened by singing hymn
488, "Come let us Sing of His Won-
derful Love" and all joined in repeat-
ing the Lord's prayer. Mrs. H. Hyticl-
man read the scripture lesson, St, John
chapter 16, verses 23-33, and Isaiah 2,
verses 2-4. Mrs, M. Irwin read a
Bible message on "Jesus the Giver of
Peace,". The vice-president led in
prayer, Hymn 259, "We have heard
the Joyful Sound" was sung, The

Harvest Thanksgiving service on Sun-
day last, There was •a good attend-
ance. Rev. J. C. Caley preached an
appropriate sermon and there was.

Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Kinsman spent
the weekend with Jas. and Mrs,. Darl-
ing, Belmore.
The weatherman favoured the Un-
ited Church congregation in the choice
of a day for their anniversary, flowers-
tastefully arranged did their part is
adding beauty to the text, Romans 1:
16. The choir prepared suitable mus-

Mr. Henry Johann attended-Painter-
ston and Listowel fair the past week:
at Palmerston he captured 7 firsts and
3 seconds. Miss Edna is not doing
any hurdling this year, her horses are
too old and too young, this is just what

ram of B. C. Bill was working in the
fruit orchards, but doesn't look as if he
put the fruit all in the basket,
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Edwards of St.
Marys were week-end visitors with
Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Edwards.
Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd McNeil at the
(McNeil home. '

We have learned with regret of the
death in Windsor of the little grand-
son of Mr. Wm. Elliott, brickyard. We
understand he was killed with a car.
The Missionary meeting of the Un-
ited Church was held on Wednesday
afternoon at the home of Mrs. Fred
Johann.

Mr. and Mrs, S. H. White, Leland
and Dorothy of Toronto, spent over
the week-end with Blyth friends.
Mrs Frank Elliott spent last week
with her parents in Stanley township.
The fund toward the erection of a
rest,room in connection with Memorial
Hall has ,now reached sum of $1000,
This is short $2000 on what is reqtar-
ed.
Miss Eileen. Robinson of the Bank
of Commerce staff, doderich, is spen-
ding her 'holidays at her home here,
Blyth Lions are negotiating for the
purchase of the land at the rear cif Mr,
