Girl Entertains", and prepare for the
Exhibit at the Fall Fair..
Current Events were given by Mrs.
Wellington.
Dr, Palmer was the guest speaker
and gave a very interesting talk on
Public Health, Everyone gained some-
thing from his tall: and the ladies ap-
preciated his coming very much,
At the May meeting there was an
exchange of plant slips, and the ladies
are asked to take their plants to the
October meeting to be judged and the
one having the best plant will receive
a prize. The roll call was a Habit' In-
jurious to Health, Lunch was in charge
of Mrs, Bradnock and Mrs. Welling-
ton.
Mr, and Mrs. Shoebottom, of Lis-
towel, were guests of Mr. and Mrs.
'Bower Parrish over the week-end,
Mr, and Mrs, Torn Dickison and
sons, Wayne and Glenn of Walkerton,
also Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Reddon of
Mildmay were Sunday geusts with. Mr.
and Mrs. Percy Ashton,
Mr. and Mrs. John C. Gallaher of
Detroit, spent last week at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. W, 5. Gallaher.
Mr. Campbell Brown is attending
Harriston High School and Mr. Nor-
man Carson, Listowel High School
this year, Fourteen students from
Gorrie and vicinity are in attendance
at Wroxeter Continuation School. Mr,
Harry Hastie is supplying bus service.
Mr. and Mrs. Nelson McLaughlin
of Winnipeg, spent Thursday in Gor-
rie, visiting Mrs. Wm. .Gamble, Dr.
and Mrs. Armstrong and other old
friends. They also visited Mr. Mc-
Laughlin's sister, Miss Eliza McLau-
ghlin in Wroxeter. Their son, Clare,
of Toronto accompanied them. Mr.
McLaughlin was druggist here for a
number of years, moving to Winnipeg
over forty years ago. 'They made the
trip from Winnipeg by motor.
Harvest Thanksgiving services are
being held in St. Stephen's church on
Sunday next at 2.30 p.m. Rev. J. C.
Caley will be the preacher.
Mr, and Mrs. Harry West of Tees-
water, spent Sunday with the latter's
mother, Mrs Geo. Ashton.
Presentation
The members of the Presbyterian
Church met at the home of Mr. Tom
Earl on Thursday evening last to wel-
come John Neilson, his English bride
and little son, Robert. Each one was
presented with an appropriate present,
and the following address.
Dear Mr, and Mrs. Neilson:
To-night it is with great pleasure,
that we, -your friends from the Gorrie
Presbyterian Church have gathered
here to shower our congratulations
and 'Best wishes upon you.
John having been a faithful member
of the congregation and the choir be-
fore going overseas is well known to
us, so we just could not allow an op-
portunity to pass without getting ac-
quainted with your wife and little son,
too. Mrs. Neilson, we extend to you,
the heartiest welcome to Canada and
to odr vicinity.
Although you may feel a little
strange in Canada, yet we are sure that
you will soon feel at home among the
Canadian people. As a' slight token of
otir interest in you we would ask you
to accept these gifts which go forward
with our heartiest wishes for a happy
future and a long married life together.

anied them.

few days at Miami Beach, Orillia and
Barrie last week.

Breckenridge of Ethel, visited on Mon-
day with Mr, and Mrs. Cameron Ed-

N.Y., are spending their honeymoon
at the home of Mr. and Mrs, Reg.

The funeral. of the late Mrs, A. Mc-
Laughlin, who passed away Saturday
morning, took place from the home of
her son-inlaw and daughter; Mr. and
Mrs. Jos. Bennett, on Monday after-
noon. Her pastor Rev. Mr. McKer-
rol, assisted by Rev. J. C. Caley, con-
ducted the service, Interment was
made in Fordwich cemetery. Mrs.
McLaughlin was in her 83rd. year.
Those from a 'distance attending the
funeral of the late Mrs. Alex. McLau-
ghlin were Mr. Bernard Duburgess,
Cobourg, Mr. and Mrs. Percy Don-
nelly, Toronto; Mr, and Mrs. Fred
Davidson, Wingham; Mr. and Mrs.
Norman McLaughlin, Wingham; 'Mr.

The opening autumn meeting of St.
Stephen's Women's Auxiliary was held
in the church .on Friday afternoon,
when a devotional. service was conduct-
ed by Rev. 3. C. Caley. Miss Adelaide
Creighton of Listowel, guest speaker,.
was introduced by the President, Mrs.
H. V. Holmes, Miss Creighton gave a
very inspiring address speaking of the
present unrest in the world, the seek-
ing to make more money, to have more
pleasure forgetting. God's command,
"Seek ye first the Kingdom of God
and His Righteousness and all these
things shall be added unto you. She
stressed the taking of more time for
serving God. If .-We would have peace
where can we find it ..better than in
God's house. She • also drew the at-
tention of all to many things in the
prayer book that we are prone to for-
get.

and Wroxeter were in "attendance.

in town on Friday afternoon.

Miss Donna VanCamp is a patient
in Wingharn Hospital having had her
appendix removed.

entertained her parents, Mn, and Mrs.
Wm. McMurray and a number of
friends on the occasion of their 40th
wedding anniversary.

visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Robt. Coul-

The Child Welfare meeting of the
Women's Institute will be held at the
home of Mrs. C. H. Wade, on Tues-

On behalf of our congregation we

Rally Day was observed its the Un-
ited Church last Sunday.
On Wednesday la4t Mr. and Mrs.
Ballagh arrived home from the West,
while in New Westminster they called
on Mr. and Mrs. Robert Lane. Mr,
Lane, for many years was .a familiar
'figure in the lumberyard here. He
owned the sawmill and built the house
now occupied by Mrs. Hackney.
Mildmay rain falling on the same
day, the meeting of the Women's
stitute was held on Thursday with a
splendid attendance. The highlight of
the afternoon was an account of her
trip to the West by Mrs. Tom Abra,
ham, accompanied by views of the
same. Topic, "Old Roads" 'by Miss
Seffray, minutes, Mrs. Elmer Zinn;
as the grandmothers have all lost their
voices Mrs, Clark Renwick sang "Sil-
ver Threads Among the Gold", in her
usual good ,style. Roll call, recollec-
tions of, my grandparents. The school.
children gave a demonstration in old
customs, honors going to Anna Miller.
Lunch was provided by Mrs. Fred Jo-
hann, Mrs. Abram, Mrs. Bumstead, as-
sisted by the hostess.
Some painting is going on, Mr. Nel-
son Hunkin has given his store room
a coat of paint, while Fleming Ballagh
is also redecorating his home.
Mr. Jack Reid had a sawing bee on
Saturday.

The September meeting of the Gor-.
rie Women's Institute was held at the
home of Mrs. Chas. Black on Wednes-
day, the 11th, with a good attendance
of members and visitors. The Motto,
Cheerfulness, a receipt for a Happy
Life, was taken by Mrs, Murray Ed-
