IVIr. and Mr's, Peppier of Tavistook
spent the week-end at the home of
their nephew, Mr. Victor Emerson,
Mrs. A, Emerson had the misfortune
to fall in her room last Tuesday mora-
ing and when, afterwards, she was
coming downstairs her leg twisted, and
she collapsed. It had been broken at
the right hip, when she had fallen,
She was taken to Wingham. Hospital,
and on Saturday was taken to,yictoria
Hospital, Loadon,, where she went
through an operation on Monday to
have the bone pinned into place. Mrs.
Emerson is in her 90th year, and her
many friends regret that such aser-
iOns trouble should have come to her.
Miss Lila and Mr, Victor are with
their mother in London.
Mr. and Mrs, Ira Wall and baby,
Doris, spent Sunday with his parents,
Mr. and Mrs, Wilson Wall of Lang-
side.
Mr, and Mrs. Jas. Wilson and her
father, Mr. John Mq,Creight, of At-
wood, visited on Friday last with the
latter's brothers, Messrs. Thomas and
Alfred IvIcCreight, and Mr. John Mc-
Creight stayed to spend a few days
here.
Mr. Scott Paterson and other rela-
tives spent the week-end with his lath-
er,Mr. F. McK. Paterson,
Mr,and Mrs. Jack Kerr and Jacquel-
ine of Bluevale, spent Sunday with her
parents, Mr. and Mrs, Herb Laidlaw.
Miss Mary Laidlaw has been under
the Dr's. care during the past week..

The men in the Whitechurch district
held a wood bee at the home of Mr.
Jas. Laidlaw on Priday ,afternoon,. and
cut up aboUt,,thirty cords Of circular
wood in his bush. This was a splendid
co-operative gesture as Jim has been
laid up with a heart condition for
some time.
A Euchre sponsored by Mr. and
Mrs. Ed. ,McBurney' and Mr. and Mrs.
Gordon McBurney, we's held onTriday
evening at the Red School, with fif-
teen tables playing. Mr. and Mrs.
Robert Pur.don received the prizes for
high points. The Taylor Orchestra
supplied music for dancing after lunch.
The W. M. S. Presbyterial will be
held in Whifechuich Presbyterian
Church on Tuesday, May 14th.
Mrs. Frances Walker of Detroit, has
been visiting at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. John Craig, during the past week,
and renewing old acquaintanceshere.
Formerly Frances Hamilton, she was
raised on the farm now owned by Mr.
Craig, her father having built the
buildings there.
Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Ward acid family
of Wingham, and Mr. Kenneth Laid-
'law of London, and Mrs. Laidlaw, and
!children visited on Sunday with Mr.

Edward Waddell ,of Bluevale extend
sympathy to them in their bereave-
ment. Little four-year-old Marlene,
was only sick a day before she suc-
cumbed to a peculiar heart ailment.
Mr. Ezekiel Phillips of Auburn, vis-
ited on Sunday with his siger, Mrs.
Andrew Fox.
Frequent visits by the police to this
village during the past week, to clear
up a second break-in into Mr. Ezra
Welwood's Service Station last,Sunday
evening, have had results, and two
youths from Kinloss have been appre-
hended and taken to Goderich for
questioning. Many will .. hope that
things will clear up now and that the
thefts of gas, etc, will cease.
OBITUARY
Marlene Waddell
There passed away in the Wingham
General Hospital On Thursday, May
2nd., Marlene Waddell, in her 4th year.
Marlene was adopted into the home of
Mr. and Mrs. Edward Waddell, Blue-
vale, when an infant. She was taken
suddenly ill in the morning and after
having blood transfusions passed away
that night. Death was due to a hem•
orrh age,
The funeral service was held on
Saturday morning from. the Sacred
Heart Church at Wingliam. Inter-
menttook place in Teeswater R. C.
