A number of accounts presented by
the .Finance Committee were ordered
paid on motion of Couns. Reavie and
Johnson.
Coun. Johnson reported for the
Street Committee that the new snow
plow equipment was now ready for
action. A sewer on John Street had
been plugged with tree roots and it
was now 'working. Permission had
been given to Mr. Stoakley to remove
a tree in front of his property. Quite
a few trees around town should be re-
moved this winter as they were in dan-
gerous condition. The condition of the
road at Howson's Mill was discussed.
The Engineer's report on this had not
yet been received. •
Coun. Wilkinson reported fgr the
Property Committee that a meeting of
the business men had been held to con-
sider the matter of providing better ac-
commodation for farmers' horses in
the winter. A plan had been agreed
upon whereby the foundation at the
rear of Canada Packers would be taken
over and a roof put on it. A right of
way across the vacant land at Can-
ada Packers could be secured and it

Metcalfe. Mr. Arno Metcalfe, who re-
cently returned from overseas is spend-
ing a 30 day leave wih his parents.

HURON-BRUCE FORUM
Huron-Bruce Boundary Farm For-
um met at the home' of Mr, and Mrs.
Jack McKague, with the attendance
of 28, The discussion was on Health
Insurance. The group found this a
very difficult question as they didn't
understand it, All agreed that it could
not be handled by a community
scheme as they could not afford it and
that the Government scheme was the
best. The remainder of the evening
was spent in progressive euchre. High
prize for ladies going to Mrs. Alex
Campbell, low going to Mrs. Andy
McCormick. High prize for men go-
ing to Oscar Holmes, low going to
Harold McCormick. Lunch was serv-
ed. The last meeting of the year will
be held at Mr. and Mrs, Alex Camp-
bell's.
COMPLETES 25 YEARS
Well-known among Ontario Farm
people, H. B. Clemes, retiring general
manager of the United Farmers Co-
operative Company, farm co-operative
wholesale, presented his 25th an-
nual report to the shareholders' meet-
ing on December 0th. Mt. Clemes,
while relinquishing his duties as gen-
eral manager, will continue to serve in
a consultant capacity.
RED CROSS COMMISSIONER
John A. Marsh, latterly special as-
sistant to the Minister, Department of
Munitions and Supply has been ap-
pointed Commissioner of the Ontario
Division, Canadian Red Cross Society.
BODMIN FARM FORUM
Bodmin. Farm Forum met at the
home of Mr, and Mrs. Rae Crawford,
with 36 in attendance. The subject
under discussion was "What about
Health (insurance", which caused a
good deal of discussion after which
progressive euchre was played with
Mrs, Calvin Robinson and Martin
Grasby winning the highest number
of points. It was decided to accept
Mr. Martin Grasby's invitation to meet
at his home next Monday ;night. This
will be review night. The speaker will
be the assistant Agricultural Repre-
sentative, Mrs. Ab Bacon and Charles
Coultes are the recreation committee.
Mr. Richard Procter brought forth a
report that Mr. Thomas from the' 0.A.
C. was available on March 27th., to
speak on soils and fertilizer and that
meeting which will be open to all for-
ums in the district will be held in Bel-
rave, Lunch of sandwiches and coffee
brought this meeting to a close.

to spend the winter with her brother

the week-end with his parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Norman Wade.
Mrs. Robertson, Gorrie South, is
spending a few days with her daught-
er, Mrs. Gordon Edgar and Mr. Edgar.
While candling eggs for export last
April, Miss Greta Hyndman, local 'egg
grader in Stephen's Egg Grading Sta-
tion, placed her name on an egg. Last
week she was pleasantly surprised to
receive a friendly letter from a Miss
Jean Griffiths of Osidge Lane, South-
gate, England, stating she had receiv-
ed the egg.
. Miss Marlene Barton spent the week
end with her father in Toronto.
Mrs. J. Bingham left on Friday last
for Winnipeg, where she will be the
guest of her brother, Dr. W. W. Mont-
gomery and Mrs. ontgomery. '
Mr. and Mrs. Archie Irwin spent the
week-end with his mother in Toronto.
Mr. and Mrs. Gilkinson spent the
week-end with friends in Owen Sound.
Mr. and Mrs.August Keil and grand
daughter, Miss Jean Lohr, spent the
week-end with relatives in St. Thomas.
Mr. and Mrs. William Earngey and
Mr. Dean Earngey of Fergus, spent
the week-end with the forrner's aunt,
Miss Kate Earngey,

their Christmas concert in their school
on Wednesday evening next, Dec. 19,
at 8 p.m.
Mr. Cecil Grainger and son, Bruce,
spent a couple of days in Toronto this

munity to Mr. R, H. Carson and fam-
ily, also Mr. George Townsend and
W. E. Townsend of Vancouver, in the
death of Mrs, R. H. Carson, who pas-
sed away. early Saturday evening fol-
lowing an illness of a few weeks.

bourne, spent the week-end with his
father, Mr. George Townsend.

The Gorrie School, S. S. No. 7 plan
on holding their Christmas concert in
the township hall here on Thursday,
Dec. 20, at 8 p.m. There will be the
usual numbers, drills, songs, and dia-
logues, with Santa Claus arriving in
time to help unload the Christmas tree.
On. Tuesday evening last friends and
relatives of !Mr. and Mrs. Jack Mus-
grove (nee Mrs. Edna Nay) of Han-
over, were presented with a miscellan-
eous shower and address read by Miss
Doreen Harrison, to which both made
suitable replies. The evening was

St. Stephen's W. A.•Held Annual
The annual meeting of the Woman's
Auxiliary of St. Stephen's Church was
held at the, residence of the president,
Mrs. H. 'V. Holmes, on Thursday af-
ternoon, Dec, 6th, • The president in
the chair. Reports from the different
officers, together with those from the
Girls' Auxiliary were received, which
showed satisfactory balances from both
branches, Most gratifying reports al-
so were presented relative to the splen-
did work having been accomplished for
Cardston, Alberta Residential School
for boys and girls, and also the main-
tenance of a ten year old girl pupil,
which this branch continues to yearly
maintain.
Following the reports, the rector,
Rev. Mr. Nobes, gave an interesting
and instrutcive address on. "Christmas.
Music", Mrs, Notes favored those
present with a lovely Christmas carol. 114 president then reviewed- the year's
work, thanked the officers and mem-
bers for their whole hearted co-opera-
tion and closed her remarks with the
words expressed. in Isaiah,-"In quiet-•
ness and confidence shall be our
strength". The officers were .re.eleet-
ed by acclamation,
As heretofore a supper was served
by the hostess, and altogether it was
one of the most successful annual
meetings ever held by St, Stephens W.

Mrs. R. IL Carson
This community was shocked at the
death of Mrs. R. H. ,Carson, who was
a highly respected citizen of Gorrie.
She passed away at her home Satur-
day, Dec. 8th, following a short illness.
Her maiden name was Aleicia Towns-
end and she was in her 63rd year. A
native of Howick Township she was
a stenographer for a number of years,
She took a great interest in the things
worth while in the community, being
an active member of the Women's
Missionary Society of the United
Church and a faithful Red Cross work-
er as long as her health permitted. She
is survived by her husband and two

brothers, George Townsend of Gorrie,
and W. E, Townsend of Vancouver,
The funeral service was held at Gorrie
United Church of which she was a
member, •on Tuesday afternoon with
Rev. G. Howse officiating. Burial took
place in Gorrie cemetery. The pall-
bearers were Norman, William, Alvin
Townsend, Irving Toner, Richard Car-
son and Norman Carson.
